Hi,
I've just started my doula course, and was wondering how long you waited to list yourself on the doula sites, like findadoula and other sites for potential clients? I'm unsure if i should list now or wait til i have at keast finished my first module. I'm studying with CBI.
Also, did you/have you got a website? If so at what stage did you do it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance
Nic

I listed myself straight away. Mind you I haven't been trying very hard but it's good to get your name out there anyway!
Good luck!

I'm almost finished my CBI course now and have just started arranging listings.
Most of the doula directories will not take your listing until you're actually certified but there are a handful that will list you as a student.
I finished my website last week and got it up a few days ago - that's been an interesting experiment because it's indexing really well on google and I've already had a couple of enquiries through it.
I think it's a personal decision as to when you start getting the ball rolling but for me, I didn't want to do it until I was ready to actually start talking with clients. I would hate to have a site up or a directory listing and then have to knock back enquiries because I got cold feet that I wasn't ready. It's only been as I've gotten towards the end of my course that I feel ready and confident in myself that I know enough to support well.
The other thing to think of too - is that if you leave it too late to get started you could find yourself finished the theory, and having to wait a few months for your mums to give birth so you can certify.
Good luck :)
I did a bit of both, some when i was a student, most once i certified...
Honestly though, i havent had one person contact me thru any of the sites... im getting more interest from my website and word of mouth!

Thanks for that help ladies!
Mel, I have just listed myself with findadoula.com, but i think i'll wait until i'm a bit closer to finishing my course before i put up a website. That way i have time to really think about what i want too!
Thanks again. If anyone else has any opinion on this i'd love to hear!
Nic
I'd list now but state you are a student and offering services for free or at a reduced price. On Findadoula and some others you can change your own profile at least as your situation changes. Good luck with your training.
