Last night my younger sister accidently gave her 6mth old bub eucalyptus oil instead of demazin they were next to eachouther on the table. Hello can't she read. She gave him a whole mil of it.
At about 3am he was up vomiting. Poor little bub he has had a hard life as it is.
I am sorry but we don't get along with my younger sis.

Will he be alright? Can it do much damage?

I can imagine it would be easy to do, especially if you are tired etc and perhaps this is a good reason to have a look whats under our change tables as we are all falliable.........

I think I would have called the poisons information centre straight away for immediate advice and would have headed straight for a doctor/hospital.

Ingesting eucalyptus oil can have some serious rections including drop in blood pressure, circulation problems, suffocation, collapse and worse especially in someone so little.

The exact same thing happend to us.:( It was about 3am in the morning and I had woken DH up to get some dimatap for DS. DS got a a bit in before I relised it was eucalyptus oil. We called poisons info and they said to keep him up for an hour and make sure he wasn't caughing a lot as this could mean he had inhaled it. DS was perfectly fine althought it taught us a lesson not to keep eucatyptus oil in the same cupboard as the dimatap. Poor DH felt very bad he still won't givw the kids any medication in the middle of the night.

Just while we are on the subject of meds in wrong places, please remember that even though we give our children baby and childrens panadol NEVER EVER give them adult panadol, a small amount can be lethal and fast. I have seen this first hand at a community we lived at a few years ago and the nurses there told us that panadol kills.A little 2 yo had accidently taken some tablets and he didnt make the careflight

Sorry just wanted to put message out.

I hope your nephew is ok.

Poisons info centre is brilliant. Always ring them, even if you are not sure, they have great, well trained staff that will always help and offer current information.

While I appreciate a lack of space issue, please please try to keep potential 'poisons' in a different location to medicines.

Having said that, medicines are also poisons. So take thirty seconds to remember the five 'rights'... right dose, right person, right medicine, right route and right time.

As someone has posted above paracetamol can be deadly. In fact OTC sell paracetamol at a lethal level for adults every single day. It is essential that we follow the recommended dosages to the letter.
