Hi

My little one (5 months today) has tested positive to lactose intolerance. She has shown many of the symptoms and the test is the final confirmation.

I'm weighing my options - and specifically, I'm not looking for advice re whether or not to bottle feed or breast feed. I appreciate there are a diversity of views and I want my head to remain clear to make the best decision for my little girl.

I have one question though: for those of you who have used the lactese drops, can you tell me if they are delivered whilst breastfeeding or if you have to express, put the drops in and wait for a number of hours before delivering in a bottle?

I have read the thread that explains where I could obtain these drops if I decide to follow that course.

Thanks

The info that I have suggests adding the drops to the EBM and leaving it for 12hrs.

The ABA should be able to help you, or a good lactation consultant.

My teenager has lactose intolerance, and takes the lactase tablets. She just downs the tablets with the first mouthful of dairy product, and has no problems. She developed lactose intolerance at about age 11, she had no problems as a baby. You may find you can give the drops immediately before a feed without needing to express.

The other place you should be able to find out would be www.allergyfree.com.au - they stock lactase, you could call them and ask.

My DS1 developed a lactose intolerance due to an infection. I had to express milk, put drops in it and wait 24hrs before he could drink it.
While you are sorting things out you may be able to express, store the EBM and use a Lactose Free formula. But you will have to express when bub would have been feeding or your supply will drop.

Best of luck sorting things out.
