I took Matilda off to the Dr this morning after 2 days of a lot of whinging and clinging and not eating much, wanting to always breastfeed (more then normal  ), she had the odd high temp and kept putting her fingers in her mouth when she cried.

She just got some teeth through so I didnt think it was that as I had a feel around and couldnt find anymore and even with panadol she still seemed irritable and sore and just not herself.

The Dr checked her all out and couldnt see anything, he said teeth (dont they always :banghead: ) and gave me a prescription for Amoxil. I think his theory was give her them and if it something it will kill it off.

What do you think? Is it worth me giving them to her?

Pesonally, I wouldn't straight away.

If she seems to get worse, or at least no better in another few days, then I'd go and get the script filled.

The overuse of AB's when they aren't needed (along with peopl not taking the whole course) has seen the effectiveness of a lot of AB's reduced. I also don't like giving my kids medicines unless they really need it (building up immune systems and all that jazz).

I probably wouldn't bother with them...I also would have questioned why the dr was prescribing antibiotics when they had already said they couldn't find anything wrong, that just seems silly to me.

I would probably see how she is in another day or two then go back to the dr if there is still no improvement. There's not much point in giving antibiotics if there is no infection for them to help with.
