Sorry to disappoint you ladies, but I've heard that they are closing down the maternity ward in that hospital and as such are not taking any new bookings. They are referring people to St George, Liverpool or Canterbury.

I would still call to double-check nonetheless.

Good luck!

I have heard the same - heaps of info in the local paper about it.
But still try and call them to find out.

Kiwibird27 - I live at Padstow and I will be going to St George Hospy as a public patient.

Cheers
Mic :D

Hi Kiwibird
we live also at Milperra and it was in our local paper about a month ago. I had both of my boys at Royal Womens Hosp At Randwick(about 25 minutes on the M5)

Hi again,
The first time i went private patient public hospital (basically own room and own doctor OB) but just recently we decided to go public and the level of care was exactly the same only difference is you dont choose the doctor/midwives. This hospital was excellent

I am not sure about Bankstown Hospital however I live at Revesby and I had my daughter at Canterbury Hospital - 15 min drive. I was a public patient and the birthing suite was huge & even had its own courtyard area & I even was lucky enough to get my own room after the birth.

the rumours about bankstown hospital maternity ward closing down was just that, rumours. there isnt and never was any truth to them. i asked the midwife there last year in december when i gave birth. she said a big meeting was held to discuss it or something. but no, its not gonna happen so dont worry.

my experience at bankstown was mostly great, long story though. the doctor should have listen to my wishes and let me go in at 37 weeks. would have had a better labour i think. and i had one insensitive midwife about me not being able to breastfeed. besides that my antenatal care there and gestational diabetes doctors there were great and i had alot of support from them.

and the midwives in the maternity ward were great too. i couldnt walk for 2 days after the birth coz of stiches from my episiotomy and they were great with changing sheets for me and getting me jugs of water n other things i couldnt do for myself like helping me to the shower and toilet n going and getting wheelchairs so i could go outside for some fresh air. they were even extra nice to me when they had to come in every half hour to check my temperature and blood pressure (try to sleep when you have midwives barging in every half hour for 10 hours!) when i was having my blood transfusion.

i will be going there again when i decide to have another child. i think its a great hospital.
