View Full Version : Multiple Pregnancies
Am 31 weeks pregnant with baby no 6. Have been diagnosed woth gest diabetes and live in a country town. have been told by my G. P that I have to see a OB/GYN to determine wheather I can safely deliver my baby in our local hospital or wheathe I have to go to Adel to deliver. They seem to think there may be complications of haemmoraging after delivery. had no problems or complications with any of the other deliveries. Am panicking that I will be away from my family for 4 or 5 weeks before my due date:( . Has anyone else had the same or similar problem please let me know.

Sorry I'm no help as I've only got 1 baby and had a healthy pregnancy.
I really want to know though how you find having 5 kids. Is it as great as I'd imagine it would be.
I have decided on at least 7 - I want a house that bursting with energy one day but people look at me like freak when I say that.

Hi, i had gestational diabetes when i was pregnant and i had a natural, no complications labour. I think your GP might be concerned because you are more likely to have higher blood pressure, swelling and difficulty with your sugar levels. Are you controlling it with diet or insulin?
I was a high risk patient in a small town also and I had to make arrangements to go to the city 3 hrs away, 4 weeks before i was due.I got hubby to take leave for a month, and took my other kids as well. Also flew up my MIL to stay. Ended up having 36 week app and they decided to deliver the next day! Was back home in 10 days rather than the month so worked out well.
Hope everything works out for you.
Cheers Jen
I was transferred to a hospital 1 ½ hours away at 30 weeks as it looked like my son had problems with fluid around his heart ... an ultrasound the next morning cancelled the c-section scheduled thatday as he was fine. I was kept there until he was delivered at 36 weeks as I too had gestationsl diabetes (very well controlled with insulin) and was carrying an excess 6 litres of fluid which meant that the chance of my waters breaking early and the cord prolapsing was high. My local hospital wasn't equipped to take care of a baby born before 36 weeks, so I was stuck!
It was a pain being away from my dh and dd for so long ... especially knowing that my dd was being cared for by several different people and her little world was thrown into inconsistancy! Although the rest was very nice and I became quite selfish after having to just look after myself for so long!
With the actual deliveries (had gd both times), I had c/sections and bled less than average. I think it depends completely on how your body reacts ... if you are worried, then maybe you should take up the option of the larger hospital for your own peace of mind.
Kamaikia love having so many kids (sometimes it's a bit noisy) they all get along really well ages 17,15,11,9 & 3 all are very excited about the new baby. Sometimes its very hectic (meal times especially) they all have chores to do and every1 helps with the housework with the exception of the 3 year old. Bradysmum am controlling the diabetes by diet have normal BP and no swelling. JenNT live 7 hours drive away from athe city they want me to go to told me I have to fly not drive just in case I go into labour on the way. with 4 kids at school I think it sux can't take them out of school for 4 weeks. Will know what the visiting specialist says on March first. Am stressing out big time about it all:(
