I always thought myself was a young mum at the age of 17 when I gave birth to my son, but there is no real answer to define a young mum, you are what you feel.

well I am 25, so where does that leave me?!lol! I told someone I was 24 teh other day - by accident. Just goes to show how your birthday kind of fades into insignificant when you still have to clean up poop on your special day!

I agree I feel young at 25 but I think I look older as people always say what your 25! OHHH! I like to think they just thought I was more mature, LOL!:D

here in melb, at the mercy a young mum was to the age of 23!

But here i am almost 25 and still feel young. I think once i hit 30  thats when i'll start to feel old (i hope 30 never comes)!

I always think of young mothers as those who haven't had enough time to complete a uni degree. Whether or not they go to uni isn't the point...it's whether they would have had enough time to complete a uni course before getting pregnant (about 4 years post high-school). But then when I think about it...you're still young when that happens. I'd probably say 24 is young-mum material. Any older, IMO, isn't really THAT young...it's more "normal" mum age.

It's just that a lot of women are waiting until they're late 30s to have kids...so it SEEMS that 25 is young. 25 isn't old IMO, it's just not young. It's "normal".

hey gals,
i haven't been onto the young mums thread before so thought i'd just come on and check it out. i have just turned 21 and have a nearly 14 month old. just love everyone's ideas about what makes someone a young mum... i totally agree with those who said you are what you feel. only a few days ago i was at a friends 22nd birthday and someone asked me how my son was. then out of the corner of the room someone shouted (over everyone) what?? you have a kid??? and then guess what the next think she said was??? HOW OLD ARE YOU??? when i told her i was 21, she had the nerve to tell me that i looked no older than 17. i was so insulted. anyway what i am getting at is, it is really no one elses buisness how old we mummas are and how old we were when we hatched. i love being a young mum, planed or not, we are mums and are doing what we can for out bubs. and i think whether i was a 12 year old mum or if i was a 40 year old mum i would still feel the same as it really comes down to your lifestyle. if you are active and busy like me, juggling bub, work, uni degree, sport, life in general, you are more likely to be stuffed... BUT i think having such a hectic life helps me to feel young, as i know if i had settled into work before baby i wouldn't feel this young and good. so hope that makes sense.

any young mums meet regually????

thanks for letting me add my POV.
take care of yourselves and your bubs

Just agreeing with sassymummy, 25 is normal... Am pregnant with my 2nd and everyone assumes it's my first - i must look the "normal" age to start having children. Then they ask the question how old is your first? My DD is 5... you can see them doing calculations! lol (yes i was a young mummy....)

And I remember well the looks i got when pregnant and DD was small - I did look about 17! (I was 21) Ignore them - they're just jealous... and being a young mum is great later on - i'm the youngest mum at my daughters preschool and dancing! :D :p

Sadly I am old now - will leave to join the "normal age mummies" thread... or start it (don't think it will be a success) lol

i was surprised when reading a baby magazine a few months ago - they classified a young mum as anyone under 30!

i'm 26 & have 3 different uni degrees... so i guess that makes me a REALLY old fogie! ;) lol
