Yesterday afternoon I went to see the Dr, I was sooo excited.

He has an ultrasound in his rooms and he had a look for the bubba, he said he could find the sac but couldn't see the foetal pole. He said based on that and my blood levels that I am only about 4 weeks . I haven't had a period since the start of July, so I don't know WHAT is going on.

I thought I was at least 2 weeks further on than that!!! I just felt so disappointed- is that silly? And I feel really, really dumb for having told the family about it when really I am apparently only just due for my period now.

He wanted me to go to the medical imaging place and have a scan yesterday afternoon but when he rang they said they wouldn't do it because it is a waste of time when it's so early. So now I have to have another blood test next week (to make sure my hCG levels are still rising) and then the scan maybe the week after.

Now I am just so paranoid that there is not even a baby in there!!!!:gloomy:

AND I might have to move to the 'Due in May 2008' thread :crying:

Thanks ladies- I'm glad you don't mind if I stick around haha.

Just wondering, do you think that maybe it could have been hard to see the foetus because I have a retroverted uterus? Surely that would make a difference?? Does anyone else have this, and did it make any difference (probably grasping at straws here....)

(I only know mine is retroverted because I had an ovarian cyst when I was 15 and they told me then. The sonographer had a lot of difficulty obtaining a good image and wanted me to have the trans-vaginal ultrasound- which I was terrified of and declined!!!)

I reckon it could because it has in the past.
Just cause they couldn see the bubba in the sack doesn mean its not there, theres shadowing, body mass. water retention. All these affect visability and at this stage bubba in the sack is still so small. That how they miss twins in early scans all the time.

Hi Leishie,
I have a retroverted uterus as well. Not sure how this affects early scans, but I had a scan done at around 6 weeks and had to have the trans-vaginal done as she couldnt see much through the abdo.

When she did this we could clearly see the foetal pole and a little heart beat ticking away at 112 BPM.

Go ahead and have the trans-vaginal done to put your mind at rest, It's really not that bad. I've had a lot of them done and all the sonographers I've had are very discreet about it and it doesnt hurt or anything at all.

Good luck and I hope I've helped a little.

I too went to my doctor with my DD's pregnancy when I should have been 6 weeks along by dates. Having had previous m/c's ny doctor ordered an ultrasound for 8 weeks. Went along hoping to see my baby's heart beating away but there was only a 5 week sac. I was sooo scared as this was exactly what happened previously. Went back to doc and she had done HCG quantitives and explained I was 2 weeks behind what I sould have been. In the end DD came out 2 weeks late!
