I have this horrible smell coming from the kitchen sink and its worse when the water runs down the drain.
Whats the best way of killing this smell. It dosent smell like a rodent, there must be something stuck down there or just a build up. I was thinking Draino

I'd agree, Draino is great stuff, works every time :)

I've tried caustic soda, but its a hassle to use. I only just discovered the individual packs of Draino, and it works fab! Hope it fixes it for you! :)

Found this and thought it might help.
To clean drains that are slightly blocked or gurgling, put half a cup of bi carb soda followed by half a cup of vinegar down the drain. Put the plug in and leave for 10 minutes, then remove plug and pour boiling water down to flush the pipes.
Caustic soda will melt your sink! A lady did this and had to get a whole new sink :o
If any of the above suggestions don't work, try Domestos.

I was told bleach really works. We have had the same prob but water comes up wen we let the bath out so we need a plummer(we tried everything).

The most likely cause is that your S-Bend is ferral basically.
Don't use Draino on the sink itself or you can kiss it goodbye (ie pour the crystals or spoon them into the drain) also don't use it if you have metal pipes or you may be calling the plumber and cancelling your holidays to pay him to redo the pipework.
Your best option is to use either a bi-carb and vinegar mix, or bleach. If you're feeling a bit more enegetic you can remove the S-Bend and give it a good clean by hand. If you've got plastic pipes this can be done by hand, just make sure to place the rubber rings back where they were.

Liquid draino is aluminium, sodium hydroxide and sodium nitrate and Crystal draino is 100% caustic soda... you're better off (and your wallet will thank you for it) to just buy the no-name generic caustic soda and use a spoon to put it into smaller drains (quite obviously not reusing the spoon for any human/pet food) or merely tiling the jar to pour it into larger openings such as toilets.

we used to get nasty smells a lot - i'll have to write the vinegar & bicarb thing down for if i need it again!! thanks! :D
btw - we were getting a blocked pipe after my husband shaved his beard once!! i keep teasing him about it ;) one day he took the pipe apart to investigate & it was blocked (from the previous tenants) with eye make-up pencils & other bits & pieces that i guess a toddler probably tried shoving down there (& hubby's facial hair to top it all off)!?!!!
that was a first for me!! i'd never thought about it being blocked by something like that b4!! well, at least we now know it wasn't our fault the pipe was blocked! (every place we've rented so far has had blocked pipes... wonder what was down the others?? ;))

If it's a rental and you're carefactor is zero after your landlord has been dodging you on repairing the pipe you can also do the old trick of going to a pool shop and picking up some hydrochloric acid and pouring that down the drain. It'll clear the blockage, but you may not have a pipe left to ever clog again, but hey it's a rental! ;) Just make sure you open a window.
