I just need some help. My DF is greek and we are christening our son Greek Orthodox.
I was speaking to my MIL today and she told me as the mother I have to wear a skirt or dress to the christening and pants were not allowed to be worn by the mother. She is very "Old school" and often refers to "back in the village" so I was just wondering if this is true? The christening is at the end of Autumn so it'll be fairly cold!

Any advice would be helpful!
Thank u!

Hi Steph. I also married into a Greek Orthodox family and although it took some adjusting to my in-laws "ways" I have been happily married for 10 years.

You MIL is old school and you can wear pants to church. The Greek girls wear pants, open toes high heels, tight tops and LOTS of make-up ( all of which is a "no no").

However, my advice would be to wear a skirt. Find a nice warm long one and go with it. It is so much easier to just appease the in-laws then to wear pants and suffer the look and Greek comments that will follow ( she will say them to your hubby - not you which will force him to defend you and irritate the hell out of you and possibly ruin this sepcial day). Not worth it, wear the skirt and enjoy the day !!!!

Sorry if this is a bit late!!! But I just thought I would post just in case you are still around Steph.

I am Greek Orthodox and I have to say that yes if I were you I would wear a skirt/dress.

I am one of those people that is constantly in pants but whenever I go to church I wear a skirt.

I know it probably is old school (there are people that wear pants to Church - esp. churches that have more young people that go) but it is just something that I have always done and in a way I see it as a sign of respect.

It will be a huge day for you and your family and there will be times that you will be in front of the whole church.

Like i said earlier personally I would wear the skirt....sorry!! :hugs:
(and some nice thick stockings:thumbsup: )
