I am desparately trying to find out the causes of polyps. I have searched the web for hours trying to get some information and am really hoping someone in bubhub might know or may be able to answer my question.

A brief history

Had baby no 1 in May 03. Had retained placenta which expelled itself 3 days later. Hospital said I should be fine no treatment necessary except for antibiotics.

Jan 05 got pregnant started bleeding at 9 weeks, got heavier lost baby at 19 weeks - supposedly unexplained

Because of the bleeding the membranes ruptured, lost fluid, baby could not survive, body went into natural labour. Had to have an emergency D & C as placenta would not release from uterine wall.

Jan 06 still trying to conceive, asked for tests and ultrasound. Discovered I have polyps on the uterine wall.

Could be the reason why I can not conceive.:(

The big question I have does anyone know if having a retained placenta could cause polyps.

I only ask this because if that is the case, it could have been the reason why I lost the last baby. I really need to know for my peace of mind and so I can go into the specialist in two weeks time and stand my ground on some issues with some confidence.

I would be ever so grateful if anyone can answer this or steer me to somewhere that will help.

Thanks:) Kirsten

Endometrial polyps
Fibroids can prompt the growth of polyps in the uterine lining (endometrium). A polyp is a small protrusion that looks like a tiny ball on the end of a slim stalk. Endometrial polyps can also contribute to menstrual problems, such as excessive bleeding and pain.
Common complications
Infertility - the presence of fibroids can interfere with implantation of the fertilised egg in a number of ways. For example, the egg may try to burrow into a fibroid, or fibroids close to the uterine cavity may'prop open 'the uterus, which makes successful implantation difficult.
Miscarriage and premature delivery - fibroids can reduce blood flow to the placenta, or else compete for space with the developing baby.

Hi i found this info - http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Fibroids?OpenDocument

I hope it helps. Cheers, PMS

Thanks pms for trying to help.:)

I've been through all those web sites but can't find out the answer to my question:(

Its almost become an obsession.

Mainly because I feel that the hospital has not done the right thing by me and if I can get an answer then maybe I can say to the hospital well if you had listened to me in the first place, none of this would have happened and I except them to do something about it now instead of months or years down the track.

I do have an appointment with a private gyno, but I don't have medical insurance and have to pay a minimum of $200.00 thats without any treatment:eek:

So have also had a referral sent to the hospital who just sent me a letter saying you have been added to the appointment waiting list.

I guess I am stressing about my age and everything else because I don't feel that I have a whole lot of time to wait.

Really really hoping there is someone out there that knows something about my situation. Hope no one thinks I'm being rude but I was a little worried as my post seems to be a long way down the list and I didn't know if anyone had a chance to see. :o

I dont know if a retained placenta can cause polyps but i know that my cousin had some removed form her uteras a few years ago at that stage she had never had a child was only 21 at the time. So i know that some peole just have them. Even though she had them she was told that there was no reason she couldnt have children and she only had them removed as she was having heavy preiods and in a lot of pain every month. On that one when she decided to have a baby she stopped taking the pill and was pregnant the very next week.
I hope that find some answers that will help you soon.

Shannon
