:chef: I use this recipe with great results:
Corned Beef with White Sauce
INGREDIENTS
1.5kg piece corned beef
2 tablespoons malt vinegar
1½ tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon peppercorns
1 bay-leaf
1 small onion
2 cloves
2 bunched baby carrots
3 wedges cabbage
For the sauce:
50g butter
2 tablespoons flour
1½ cups cream
1½ cups milk
½ small onion, finely chopped
salt and white pepper
dash of Worcestershire sauce
juice of half a lemon, optional
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
METHOD
Place the corned beef in a large saucepan filled with cold water and bring to the boil. Skim and reduce the heat. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer, uncovered for 2-2½ hours or until tender.
For the sauce:
Melt butter in a saucepan. Add flour and cook until the flour "bursts". Gradually add the cream and the milk. Stir through onion and season with the pepper and Worcestershire sauce. Cook, stirring, until the mixture thickens. Stir through the lemon and parsley and serve over the corned beef.
Thanks cant wait to eat it i love silverside yummo!!!

I have a question :o
How big does the slow cooker have to be? (or what do you use?)
Because i think 1.5 would be way to big for just DF & I and DS.
So perhaps 1kg with left overs?
So how long would I cook it for  (Im new to this!!) & would i lower the ingredients?

i just rinse the meat under water, put it in the slow cooker, just cover with water, throw in some pepper corns a dash of vinegar and a bay leaf. cook on slow for bout 6-7 hours dependingh of the size of the meat and then i serve it with mash and other veges.
:chef:One of our family faves too and your making me hungry.

oooooooooh i cooked one yesterday and it was YUM.
Brown the meat in a frypan on all sides to seal it and then put it in the SC, add some shallots, carrots, potatoes, tin of crushed tomatoes, about a tbs or 2 of tomato puree or paste, 300ml of beef stock and some parsley and i put mine on auto for 8hrs.
P.S It was a weight watchers recipe too!!
I cover the meat, add a splash of white vinegar, a teaspoon of white sugar and some pepper. Cook it for 6hrs. Personally I hate corned beef, but everyone else says my one tastes yum.
