I have started to try and wean who is 7 months, but she flat out refuses formula out of a bottle, mug or cup. She will drink water out of bottle, mug or cup. I have tried expessing milk and giving it to her bottle, mug or cup but she refuses it. We have tried giving it to her when she is really hungry (first thing in morning) or just leaving it on flool so she can play with the bottle but nothing works.

Matilda started solids at about 5.5 / 6 months but only has three small meals a day. I have gone back to university to finish my degrees but i can not be gone for more than 3 / 4 hours because she wants a feed.

Any hints on how to get her to take formula.

We have tried different brands, normal (cows) milk, soy milk. She just has to smell it and she turns her nose up at it.

Thanks
Shae

a friend's GP recommended getting them used to formula by mixing it with fruit puree and cereal and by adding a couple of pinches of sugar to the bottle, as br'milk is sweeter than formula and then gradually reducing it (you can't really blame them for prefering mummy's boob over a bottle of powder and water!!!)
good luck!! :p

Hiya

I went back to uni at the same age (7 months) and experienced something similar- Felix more often than not didn't drink the expressed milk I left him.
But he seemed to make up for it when I got home (8 hours away) and it didn't affect his growth or anything (he was pretty chubby). So my experience has been that a bigger gap without milk (breast or formula) didn't hurt. Oh and he ate pretty much nothing at this age.

Hi
I think this was suggested by someone else under a similar thread...can you try a mix of formula and EBM to get them used to the taste. Initially more EBM and a little formula and gradually change to all formula.

Just a thought...
