Hi there,

My son 2 nights ago started vomiting consistently every 15mins, with the runs starting the next morning along with a fever. I took him to my Gp the very next day and he was diagnosed with Rota Virus.

That night, it had occured to me that he only had one wet nappy earlier that day, so I called the hospital for some reassurance that he will be ok, instead they told me to bring him in straight away.

Sure enough they confirmed that it was the "Rota Virus", a much serious virus thats targeting children of all ages. Its the fever we have to watch for.

A brisbane school has closed down all this week due to the same illness. So im posting this thread in hopes that mothers and fathers will take note if their child/ren become violently sick.

Bella has been hospitalised 3 times in her short life with this virus ... get your kids checked as they can go downhill very quickly.

She usually spends 3-4 nights on a high flow drip trying to get her rehydrated and doesn't tend to start eating again for about a week.

My son had it when he was 7months and i didn't know what it was untill we ended in the hospital with severe dehydration and they told us, it was a very traumatic time and we were in hosp for over a week. You are right they deteriote so quickly and you have to watch them hope your little one gets better soon

Definately keep an eye on your kids if they start vomiting because this Rotovirus is deadly. DS1 got it when he was 18 months old and he and I spent 4 days in isolation in hospital. The only thing he could keep down was apple juice. While it sounds yummy, it does not make for a nice nappy when it is the only thing they are eating/drinking. He recovered from it, but I would not wish that time on my worst enemy.
