Hi there

I have booked into St George Public Hospy and if all goes well I will be having my bub in the birth centre there...it is just near the maternity ward.

I went in for my first visit and met my midwife...which was pretty cool...they have waterbirth there too...which will probably be the way I go.

Let me know if you need any further info.
Mic

I know alot of people who used St George birthing centre and it comes highly recommended. Also a friend of a friend (whom I have met) is a midwife there.

I personally didn't go through the birthing centre, I went through the hospital and had my pregnancy care with the midwives at St George hospital clinic - they were fantastic.

I have also heard glowing reports of the birthing centre at St George hospital.

Thank god somebody posted this - i live 1 suburb away from St George - every time i try to call the birthing centre (or ask to be put through) there is an answering machine on to take messages and ive never been called back! Im just looking for some information about their birthing facilities - i too have heard some good things but id really like to get some feedback from mothers who have been there, who they saw (midwives or doctors?) how comfortable the visits were, what they actually did when there - basically everything about the place there is to know? Mayby i have been too brief when leaving a message - if anybody has the time, or you know others who have been there, it would be greatly appreciated if you could post info about your experiences!
thanks

(and, if you are wondering - i work long hours - so have not had the time to visit - and no im not pregnant yet - working at it though!!)

Mic (can i call you that?) - congratulations - do you know what you are having yet? I guess you have maybe only had 1 ultrasound though? (as you can see - im SO knowledgable about these things- not!) Good to see somebody using St George - if its not too private, would you mind letting me know some info about your visits? and if you recommend anybody there? Would be great to get some knowledge from somebody using there - not just somebody employed there.
Thanks
D

Hi JR'sMum,

I attended the Birthing Suites at Sutherland Hospital and the midwives were fantastic. I submitted to them my birth plan a few weeks prior and they followed my wishes to the letter - no questions asked.:yelclap:

My beautiful son was born in the bath (not planned) - and it was wonderful to see him peacefully arrive, none of this screaming and bright lights going on..... I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Let me know if you want any more details - im happy to share, just don't want to bore you all.

Hi dnd2504,

Thanx. I am not actually pregnant yet but am just looking into different options for my next pregnancy ( not sure if I want to have another bub yet as my birth experiences have not been fantastic ). First birth was at St George Private. First Midwife was a shocker and told me I wasn't in labour - too bad I gave birth only 7 hours later - luckily I got a nicer lady for the last 2 hours or so.
Second birth was at Kareena Private - I had an induction, epidural then vacuum extraction - son had cord around his neck and was in a shocking state - I was not at all happy with that experience - although the level of care afterwards in the wards was fantastic. I would really like to try for a natural birth 3rd time round but am getting mixed reports about birthing centre. A lot of the comments I hear is that the midwives leave you to it most of the time and just pop in every now and then. I can't handle that as I get very scared during labour and like to have a someone "on hand" more often than not! Did you find that the midwives stuck around or were they more often out of the room, then in?
