Hi, just wondering do you drink coffee while pregnant? I'm a coffee drinker normally but usually cut right back or out altogether during pregnancy. What do you do?

Each pregnancy my body has rejected coffee. I am a regular coffee drinker but once I become pregnant even if I wanted to drink it I couldn't.

One word for anyone who can still stomache coffee while pregnant...DECAF !!!!!! Oh its my best friend :D ...I am mainly a green tea drinker but when I go out I like to have a nice freshly ground coffee (a latte girl) and DECAF is safe for bubs while still getting that yummy coffee bean smell and taste.

omg - reading that just makes me start shaking and convulsing.
there was a time when i drank two coffees a day . the first one in the morning was 3 big teaspoons of instant coffee with 2 teaspoons of sugar, followed up by another one with 2 teaspoons of coffee and 2 sugars..... and all that by about 10am.
when it finally dawned on me that i was actually drinking the equivalent of 5 cups per day , not just 2, i stopped. Derrrrrrrrrr!
lol oh dear!!
this thread made me want coffee... more green tea here i come

I'm sitting here reading responses drinking my second decaf for today! (don't usually have two - but couldn't resist this morning - hence the thread.) Might try some green tea - had a ppmint one the other day at a friends house and that went down well too!

I try and avoid caffine altogether when pregnant.
My sister had a number of miscarriages and she felt that one of them was down to the amount of coffee she used to drink. We are talking a full jug of filter coffee.
I like drink hot water with a slice of lemon in it when pregnant.
yep sorry my green tea has to be the cold stuff mmmm
im in love with the tetleys one, its got grapefruit in it, mmmm

I didn't for two reasons. 1, the smell of it make me queasy. 2, when I could stomach it, bub got really hyper and that didn't bode well with me.

My doc and my ob both said that a few cups a day won't hurt the bub at all, but that you need to take into account all other forms of caffeine you're having, like tea, chocolate, coffee... so I've gone down to one small coffee a day, one decaf, the occasional chocolate or milo and given my crappy nausea, the rest of the day I'm a ginger and lemon tea girl, just to keep the stomach from upchucking... and keep me hydrated!

When I was pregnant I drank mostly decaf, (around 1-2 per day) but would treat myself to about 2 or 3 real coffees each week.

I am not a coffee drinker at all. I love my green tea and peppermint tea. :D But I heard somewhere that large amounts of green tea may interfere with folic acid. It also contains caffeine.
Having said that I still have one or two cups a day. I think moderation is the key.

I'm glad that you started this thread as I was wondering the same thing!! I walk 9-10kms nearly everyday down to the coffee shop and back and I look forward to my skinny cap! Then I started thinking, 'maybe I should be having decaf' but I only drink one cup of coffee per day and then sometimes a cup of tea during the day but that's it. Mind you, I used to luv a cuppa in the evening after dinner but can't seem to stomach it anymore!! I feel a bit at ease from reading these posts about drinking one cup per day now! I'll keep it up!! lol!
Oh, I can't do the green tea thing!! I can drink the cold one on a hot day but that's it! I've tried and tried liking the hot one but no!! Is chamomile tea safe then??

Feeling a bit ms this am for the very first time with the bubba. I picked up a cup that had had coffee in it and couldn't stand the smell. Think my coffee drinking days might be numbered for a while!

Bronnygrace - I was just thinking the same thing. Maybe I should cut it out until I get passed the first trimester and then just have my one a day!! I'll get some decaf today, I used to drink decaf anyway, don't know why I switched really! lol.
I had a 40th party to go to on Sat night and on arrival they hand you a glass of champagne!! I'm like 'aarrgggghhhh......NNNnoooooooo......' but I did drink it over the course of the night. kept topping it up with sparkling water!! I feel really guilty now!! I'm sure it's ok but I never drank alcohol with my other 2 but I didn't want to look obvious with NOT drinking so that my mates would ask questions!! Yep, so hard in the beginning not telling anyone isn't it!!

Well done Bronnygrace!! If pregnancy can't stop you smoking, nothing can!! You can do it!!
Yeah, I'm a big bubbles drinker!! We have Friday school staff drinks and then we normally carry on after that but I've just been saying that I'm busy and that I can't!! I'm going to Melbourne in 2 and half weeks for a month so by the time I return, I'll be just over 12 weeks so I can tell the world!! So really, I've only got 2 more weekends to dodge, how is easy is that! lol
I better go and get DS some lunch I guess!!
