I thought someone may know...
what is the difference between a Nintendo DS and a Nintendo DS Lite?
Does one contain more calories than the other?
I'm confused...DH bought one yesterday for Master J's birthday coming up and I've gone to eBay to find some games and there are several search options...mainly the DS and the DS Lite.
I remember the good ol' days when you bought a game console and all you got was Donkey Kong...no confusion there!
Also, what accessories are the must haves for it (no doubt there will be hundreds!)
I'm seeing screen protectors...should I get one of these?
Can anyone help me please?

Found this for you

Much, much better looking than the original DS
Smaller and more stylish
Larger stylus
Screen size still the same
Bright screens
Good collection of games that take advantage of the DS Lite's unique capabilities

The DS Lite is, for the most part, purely a cosmetic upgrade to the original DS. In terms of power and abilities, the DS is exactly the same as the DS Lite. So that means it has the ability to play DS and GBA (Game Boy Advance) games, dual screens (with the bottom being touch sensitive), built-in wireless and Wi-Fi for multiplayer on some games and a built-in microphone for speech recognition control (once again, with only selected games). Read our full review of the original DS here.

The most apparent new feature with the DS Lite relates to screen brightness. The DS Lite comes with four brightness settings, the brightest of which is much brighter than anything the original DS could muster.

So any of the DS Games can be played on it. Makes life a lot easier.

Id make sure you get something to keep it in to stop it being knocked around

My DD has the DS which is a bit bigger and bulkier than the DS Lite ... they both accept the same games.

The DS Lite looks nicer and comes in pretty colours.

What accessories and games have you bought for your DD? Obviously Master J isn't going to be content with anything 'girly' for a game but in regards to accessories...I'm thinking a car charger/adapter, a case (but which one, there are soooo many!) and headphones?

My brother has one and can spend hrs on it, I get totally lost and confused after 5 mins then get ****ty and frustrated!! Its not meant for us oldies!

Definitely go the car charger and headphones, the noises of some games can be very very irritating over and over again!

As for the case, get something strong and sturdy and can hold a few games so they dont get lost

we have both
4yr has the ds 7yr has ds lite
i found that the ds is more bulkier but more resistant to being dropped thrown etc lol
the great thing about the ds is you can actually play gameboy advance/sp games in them and they are actually cheaper way cheaper than ds games and they sell the same games though you only use one of the screens
the only extras i got was the car charger for my older son as he travels when visiting dad and a cpl of game holders just to protect them
oh get a cpl of extra pens they do get lost lol but as for the screen protectors they are pretty resilient without them and two yrs of playing though there are scratches they still work well
hope this helps be expected to get stuck playing them to complete hard levels lol:)

We bought an accessory pack (from Kmart) that had a case, screen protector (never got used), spare stylus, car charger and game cases.

Most of the games I've bought are girly ones .... Nintendo Dogs, Barbie something, Spiro, Scooby Doo ... plus some of the GameBoy Advance games ... she normally keeps 2 in at once, a GameBoy Advance one and a DS one .... saves us carrying heaps of games around with us.

Only thing is we've been through about 5 stylus .... she chews the ends and then they fall out all the time.
