hi everyone, can someone shed some light on me on what the symptoms are when babies have growth spurts? my little one is 6 weeks old now so i know she's due for one and im sure its happening now because she'd feeding insanely every half hour, but she's also very sooky and crying constantly when she's not on my boob and she's not sleeping well and im so worried about her but before i go to the dr i wanted to see if this is normal. this has only been happening in the last two days. the week prior to that she was sleeping more than usual but now she's gone the other way. she was like this when she was two weeks old as well but then settled down.

also any idea how long a growth spurt is supposed to last? thanks in advance :hugs:

Sounds like she is increasing your milk supply for a bit of a growth spurt.

We have had 3 nights of screaming from 9pm - 5am and sitting on the boob and not being settled once she had emptied the boobs. Last night I was ready for it so dh and I got a dvd. Anyway she had a feed 2hrly instead of every 20mns and actually was content.
So it will only last a little while but gosh isn't it so tiring.

DD will feed constantly when it's a growth spurt and over a few days which increases the milk supply and then it settles and then she tends to sleep more and for long periods at a time.

I think let her feed as much as she likes and make sure i take care of myself with food and drink prepared for me - it does get tiring but I keep reminding myself it will only last a couple of days.

I found a recipe in the breastfeeding section for lactation boosting cookies which i have found to be fantastic. I have a biscuit in the evening with a cuppa and that''s been good for my supply too, dd tends to be quite content too and I think this has alot to do with it.
