Hello June mummies! Just wondering how many of you have already started stocking up on baby clothes, & if so where did you get them & what sizes are you mainly buying up?

I actually started stocking up the moment I knew I was pregnant! We had a very strong feeling all along it was a girl, so I had hardly any hesitation to buy girls clothes (plus some unisex ones - just in case). However, I haven't needed to buy too many because my ILs gave me heaps of hand-me-downs from my SIL's child & my IL's foster kids.

I did buy lots on ebay tho!! I mainly bid on the auctions that had about 8 items in it to save money. But I also spent a lot on organic cotton clothing as I'm trying to be as organic as I can afford... The clothes I bought from a shop have all come from Kmart & Target - all reduced or on sale. I think they have the CUTEST baby clothes!! :D I think Target's the best (but I don't have much to compare it to!) for baby stuff, though.

I wanted to ask about the sizes because I have A LOT of 0000s & 000s & even a few 00000s!! I didn't buy too many things in the smaller sizes, but was given them by my ILs. My mother was over one day & when I showed her all the baby clothes I have (seperated into sizes), she told me to basically forget 000s & smaller as none of us (myself & my 3 sisters) really needed them - we were too big! So, now I've been careful to buy only 00s & bigger (I've stopped buying COMPLETELY now as I'm trying to save money for the other important things - like a pram, carseat, etc!) . But what are your opinions? I heard everyone's babies are different, it doesn't matter how big your parents babies were...

I'm not a June mummy so I hope you don't mind me being here! Whern I was shopping for ds's newborn clothes adn even after he was born, I was useless at shopping in advance! even when you can see them it's really hard to tell what size they are!!
As you said, all bubs are different, but these are the sizes i used......ds was born 8lb3oz so not tiny (well, they are all tiny!!!) but not huge either. I had all 000, they were a bit baggy at first but not enough to warrant having anything in the smaller size. He lasted 2 months in 000, then another 2 months in 00. Once he hit 0, he didn't need anything bigger untill I bought his summer clothes in size 1. Still now, most of his size 0 pants fit him easily.
I think kmart and target are great for bubs clothes. Target is better quality and I have found kamrt sizes to be quite small. You can also find some really good stuff at best and less - you have to hunt for the nice, quality things but tehy are a great price and everything I have had has lasted and washed well.

My advice............STOP NOW!!! I know its hard cos everything is soooooooo gorgeous, but you'll thank yourself later. Definately start buying bigger sizes if you want, but keep your receipts!!! kmart and target will return things months down the track so that way things aren't wasted if it turns out tehy don't fit.

oh, one more piece of advice.... keep trying stuff on bub, even if it looks huge!! you'll look at a size 00 and think this will never fit.....then one day you put it on and it's too small!!!

sorry, I ave really rambled on.......happy shopping!

I've got a 3 week old, and my 2 cents worth is this:

If you are going to use cloth nappies, be careful of the smaller sizes. My little man is not finding much room in the body in size 00 with his "does my bum look huge in this?" nappy and fleece pilcher on. The brand which I am finding is the worst culprit is Bebe. Bonds Wondersuits are not too generous, either.

He was just over 4kg at birth. Thank goodness I went really light on buying the size 000's.

Just remembered..... I got a fair bit of newborn stuff at myer - their baby world brand is really good - quality and sizing. And a reasonable price too.

Thanks for the advice! I will stop buying (anything below a '0' anyway ;)). At least now I can stop myself off someone else's experience - I try to learn from others' mistakes... & I've seen on eBay A LOT of ppl selling things that were never worn by their baby because they didn't keep trying them on & they outgrew them b4 they realised...

I havent bought anything yet. I wanted to wait till my 20 week scan before I went splurging. This time tho i am going to buy things that are long lasting so i can pass it on to my sons or daughters when their time comes :)

Only four days till my scan, so PLEASE send healthy baby thoughts my way.

HUGE healthy baby thoughts your way moonblossom.

Im 24 weeks, but i havent bought anything for bub yet ... AT ALL... :p Its more cause we havent had the money until now... so we will start shopping. I was always told to buy more in 00 than anything else for newborns, so they can grow into and get some use out of it.

I've been window shopping alot but havent bought any clothes too, for a few reasons. Ours will be winter babies, and I thought it might be better if I buy closer to the due date just so that I have more choices in the fleecy wintry stuff. Also I'm still not used to the fact that my baby is going to be a boy! I've been looking at lovely pink things so now I gotta change my focus to blue stuff. I also heard from a friend who is 37 weeks that her doctor actually told her that her baby is bigger than average, so she was told to buy 000 instead of 0000. So, the conclusion is, feel free to indulge in a few lovely pieces, but leave the bulk buying till later. :p

I discovered a factory outlet in Richmond (next to Hoddle St) which supplies baby clothes to places like Disney, Baby Target, Kmart etc. I was truly amazed at the prices there. A dress that costs $19 at Baby Target would only be $5 for example. And they are perfectly new and cute. Anyone else knows of this place? Its next to the Pea in the Pod factory outlet.

i actually managed to score some winter outfits for REALLY cheap from my work (woolworths) because they forgot to clear them at the end of the season, then a month or so ago they decided to clear them & so i got lots of fleecy suits (2 packs) for only $3 each (it's just a shame the main boss was on, the other one was going to clear them at just 50 cents each!!) :D

bekkyboo - i wish someone would have told me earlier to stock up on 00s... that's what I have LEAST of atm!! but that'll change later on ;) after bubs is born i'll prolly buy HEAPS, coz for now i don't know what season it'll be when she's in 00s...

I was just asking the question on sizes in another section - forgot this was here LOL!!

I've heard that 000's are a good place to start from. I've only got probably 3 or 4 0000's at this stage. I figure baggy is better than too tight.
