View Full Version : amoxicillan
Hi I have a sinus infection and have been sick for weeks..trying to just get better on my own..but today I saw the doctor who gave me a script for amoxicillan. It says on the pack to take 4 times a day for 5 days.. Its 500mg..that seems like to much to me. I was told by doctor and chemist lady its totaly safe, dont worry..but I do worry! have any of you taken this while pregnant? Please ease my worrys. I have already started taking it..as I am really not feeling well and I need to feel better. But I dont want to put Madison at risk for birth defects or somthing. thanks.

I've taken it and my kids are fine :) Don't worry - they're pretty paranoid about what they'll give you when pg. Don't take less than the proper dose either - you need to take it properly for it to work. :)
I agree EXACTLY with Tea Lady
I had to take it .. when pregnant with JAck - when a student bit me .. it was taken as a preventative by me .. to STOP infection ..
I rang three people too (paranoid mums ..) and its definitely on the safe list

I'm going to try and reassure you.
Amoxycillin is listed as a category A drug which means that millions of pregnant women have taken it, without any ill effect. So you have nothing to worry about. It' perfectly safe and will not cause any birth defects.
I know this because Dh is a Pharmacist and I have asked time & time again if it's safe in pregnancy.
I have had to take it several times whilst pregnant and my babies were perfectly healthy.
Get well Soon:)

I was prescribed this while pregnant for severe morning sickness and silly me decided not to take it as I didnt want any medication not even panadol during pregnancy (I didnt have bubhub either so I couldnt ask anyone) I paid for it though and ended up with the morning sickness for the whole 9 months :crying:
Looks like others have provided you with the same info I was going to.. so now I just want to say that I hope you feel better soon.
:hugs:
thanks girls! Im going to take it...its just really hard not to worry!

I was going to let you know that it is a Category A drug but someone else has already done that. I have needed to take it in most of my pregnancies and have had no adverse effects. My kids are all healthy. Hope you feel better soon!
