View Full Version : Nappy Rash in Toddlers
Hi,
Suddenly my 16 month has got really bad nappy rash, he scream like a mad thing at the mention of a nappy change. I've got some cream, and I have tried nappy off time for a couple of hours, he is weeing and poohing so much, I used to get two poohs a day, now it is up to four - five. What else can I try to sort this out, he is in day care four days a week and has been for a few months. Why suddenly now?
Better dash and mop the floor!!!
I am so sorry your poor little boy is in such pain. It must be so horrible. I am the biggest fan of paw paw ointment. I found that even on the most severe nappy rash it healed very quickly.

Calendula cream is good too. Ask the daycare what cream they use, and what type of nappies, your little one may be allergic to the bulk nappies they use.
If the rash does not clear, you should see a Dr as it may have become a fungal infection, if so any thick creams will only aggrevate the rash as the infection will grow under the cream. Hope you work it out. :)
Hi Easterlily,
Thanks
Where would I get some of this from?
Mouse you can get it from the supermarket it is usually in the health food section and the chemist or health food shops stock it as well.
nel09 The doctor has given me Hydrozole cream, we had to go to the doctor to get his head glued! Kept him up a little later than usual for extra nappy off time, he ended up falling over and cutting his head! one thing after another. Day care have said that nothing has changed, just a little pluzzled as to why this would all start now.
I would be trying to work out what has caused him to poo 4-5 times a day when before he was only going twice a day. All that extra poo on his skin would cause a rash, no matter how quickly the nappy is changed.
I guess the most obvious place to start would be his diet...even if you have not intorduced any new foods/drinks, just a different brand of something might have slightly differnet ingredients, and be enough to cause a reaction.
I was given hydrozole for DS when he was about 10mths old and had severe nappy rash, it cleared it up pretty quickly. Hopefully it works well for your bub too :)
Hope you bub is better soon :)

Hydrozole is great for clearing up fungal rashes, but as it is cortisone based try not to rely on it too much. Like cwsmum said, try to think if he has eaten anything different, or it could be yucky teething poo burning his skin. While it is bad keep him off acidic foods like citrus and tomatoes, apples. TMI, but does the poo smell yeasty?
Thank all, (must have been tired last night I have only just noticed there is a whole section on Nappy's and Nappy Rash"!)
I have been asking child care if any thing has changed, but they say everything is the same. Think it might be teething poo. If it smelt "Yeasty" what would this be?

My little one gets yeasty stinky poo when teething. A couple of my friends have noticed the same thing.

Hi there :)
Pawpaw ointment is the only jar of anything in this house:D Its great for rash, burns, sores anything.
Everytime dh started teething she would get a rash for a few days and then it was all over.
I believe because they are salvatating (think thats how you spell it) from sore gums it makes their poos more acidic hence the rash.
Hope that helps with an explanation and goodluck.:)
