Hello,

I've been following what people have been saying about certain hospitals and so I chose to book into NSPH under Dr Gil Burton for my second baby which is due early January. Recently however I'm reading more and more that the Mater is the hospital to get into. I have tried to but they are fully booked. I'm starting to panic a bit because I had a not so nice time with my first baby at the SAN because of staffing issues etc. I had to have a c/section under a general because of a health condition which made recovery in those first few days awful I was high on pethadine and need to repeat the whole process again with bub number two so I really want to go where there is enough staff and you are looked after properly.

Has anyone got anything positive to say about NSPH?

Is it possible to hire a private midwife to take care of me while I'm in hospital?

I'm anxious about the whole thing becaue last time was so bad.

I had mine at NSPH back in March and had no problems at all! I guess mine was a much different labour but I found all the midwives so helpful and patient, being a first time mum. The only problem was that everyone had a different opinion on how to do things but I hear that is fairly common across all hospitals..

I hear good things about Mater as well but for us, NSP was closer and we have absolutely no regrets and would go there again for our 2nd..

Good luck with your decision!

You've got one of the best OB's in the country, you'll be fine. I have so say though, as I have previously said, the staffing levels in the ward significantly need to improve.
