View Full Version : Colic? Blockage? Help!
Our 5 week old baby has had bad wind from day 1! Evertime i fed her she would spend the next few hours squirming and crying out! it would get better and them i would feed her again and it would start all over again! She wouldnt burp.
I then bought the dunstan baby dvd and realized she had bad wind pain so now spend up to an hour after each feed burping her. this has helped somewhat but still shocking in the middle of the night! From about 2am onward she will cry out/yelp and squirm!! We are going crazy!! I have tried brauer colic which is not bad but hard to get her to have.
Any suggestions??
Hi I am having the same thing with my 8 week old we are trying at the moment Infacol drops from the chemist they are working pretty good. Its ment to put all the air in their tummy togeather so that it is easier to get up. My child nurse said to me to only burp her for 5 mins then put her down and then if she squirms and crys to then pick her up over my shoulder and then sometimes the air comes straight up then. She is going better most of the time we seem to have a couple of good days and then a bad one but its definatly better than before.
GoodLuck:)
My DS was the same, I took him to a Homeopath and tried the Brauer Colic relief - both didnt work, infacol really really helped (he still has it now at 15 weeks) - and we both DS and myself had acupuncture - which was fantastic - I also cut out all wheat and diary from my diet and we both took a probiotic.
He has no problems now as they grow out of it - but it was such a nightmare at the time, he would scream in pain for hours every night - was heart breaking - I realllllly found the acupuncture was a great help.

Hiya Alana,
I've heard of the probiotics being used to help babies with wind and bowel issues. What is the exact name of the one you use and where do u purchase it from? Who recommended it?
Accupuncture is interesting. How did that help DS? Do u just see any accupunturist? Or do they have to specialise in children's?
I use infacol for my bubs wind and brauers when it gets really bad. Both have been amazing- i would't have coped the second time round without both of these. I agree, they will grow out of it as their gut matures and they learn to sit and crawl etc.

Don't forget good old fashioned Gripe Water, either.
You should be able to get it from a pharmacy. If not, try a compounding pharmacy, where they can make a mixture to suit your needs.
Water with Dill seeds steeped in it is supposed to be good too. Use Google to find out how to do it, how much, how often.
My sister recommended that I drink three Yakults (those probiotic yoghurt drinky things) each day to help with DS's wind. I do it religiously now and although he still experiences lots and lots of bum trumpets, they don't cause him trouble any more and he has stopped waking up in the middle of the night yelling!
Obviously this only works if you are breastfeeding.
