My DD is 3 and a half now, she will not give up her night time milk bottle, last night i took it off her and told her she was a big girl, well at 11pm she was still sitting on the edge of her bed sulking.....God love her it was cute but she would not go to sleep! So silly me was a sucker and gave her a bottle, she was out to it in 30 seconds......Some advice, How can I do this????

Yep ive tried that, i let her have milk in her cup but i think its the security of having the bottle there with her :S

BTW I see your from rutherglen!!! I used to live in Wahgunyah :) I loved that little place hehe

wow! small world huh

My DD had bottles till about 2.5, got sick of her biting the teats so milk went everywhere! I think I just threw them out and bribed her with something. Told her if she went to sleep i'd take her to the park.
Its hard isnt it

Yeap! Its just easier to let her have the bottle, stops the tantrums and we both get sleep, however shes 3 and should be long out of that. Bribery dont work either, hopefully the phase will just pass...

My DD was addicted to her bottles. Was still having 4-5 a day when she was 2.5 years old. One day i took her to her paediatrician (about something else) and when we left she asked for one. I told her the doctor said no more as they give her belly aches and when we got home we threw them out. She still now mentions that the garbage truck took her bottles (she was 3 in June). It took about 2 months for her not to ask for a bottle any more but she never really tantrumed over it, just sooked and whinged now and again.

Good luck, maybe you could have a bottle fairy and the fairy takes the bottle in the middle of the night and leaves a present in return.

yeah i think something like the bottle fairy is a good idea. i remember my mum telling that they were going to the newborn babies in the hospital. maybe try that?

Ronan had a bottle in bed up to the age of 3. He still has milk in bed from an Avent bottle, but with the sippy-cup spout (no-drip) instead... he's happy with that and still enjoys the lovely security of a bottle and LOVES bedtime- jumps into bed at 6.30pm every night in anticipation of milk and sleep.
I pick my battles!

Oh by the way, Danielle knows this but I'm also from your old area, I'm in Albury (was Wodonga) Howdy!

The bottle fairy sounds good! Also another one I've heard of is slowly making the hole in the teat bigger so there's no longer the comfort of the sucking. First making the hole in the centre bigger, then cutting it one way, then cutting it the other way so there's a cross. If it's done gradually apparently they gradually lose interest!

Good luck!!

Could you do something, like break the teat or some such, and explain to her that the bottle is broken.. then help her throw it out :p that way she has a part of it.

My SIL did this with her 2.5 year old and the dreaded dummy

it must be very hard for you kirby. both my kids stopped drinking out of a bottle not long after their first birthdays so i didn't have any probs, but maybe you could take her shopping for something new to sleep with like a care bear or whatever she likes and tell her cos she's a big girl thats what she sleeps with now, let her take part in the hole lot, paying for it and all. just an idea:rolleyes:, good luck
