Good for you Bronny-Jane!. I quit smoking after 10 years when I found out I was Pregnant with Amelia. I cut stuff out of Newspapers/mags about lung cancer etc and stuck them on the fridge for inspiration, I carried a stress ball in my bag and avoided smokers like the plague! It was HARD but I just kept telling myself how BAD smoking was and pushed on through. It gets easier over time and you WILL suceed! Take it one hour at a time and good luck!!:o :o

Sorry i didn't really have something like that all i did was keep my self busy so every time i felt like a smoke i cleaned the kitchen or some thing along those line's.
I gave up because Jakob came up to me all upset & sad ''mummy if you keep smoking you will die'' he learnt that at school that day.
So i gave up for my kids.

yeah i also gave up for my kids!
it was so hard, but like kimmy said, the kids started learning about how deadly it was and make me feel horrible@!

not only that the MIL was telling the kids that us smoking not only was gonna hurt us but told the kids that we are making them get sick too  i thought it was a cruel way to get us to stop smoking. the kids panicked!

i quit through all of my pregnancies, coz i just cant stand to see pregnant woman smoke.. although it is completely their choice and i would never say anything.

especially when people wont smoke around their baby, but will smoke when their pregnant  its giving the baby the poisons directly!

anyways.. even though i didnt smoke around the kids, they still copped too much smoke, they shouldnt have got any at all! i hate to think now that they were passive smoking :( :(
i quit cold turkey.

DH & I tried for over a year to give up before I got pregnant. But we'd still buy a packet if we went to a party or the pub. Our main motivation to give up was purely cost so it didn't stop us spending $10 here or there. You really have to want to give up!! And have lots of will power!!
A good tip is to avoid parties, pubs or any where there's people in general!! But if you'd still like a life just avoid those that smoke. If it is all too much though and you're going crazy just bum one off all those that used to bum off you. No seriously, by just having one you've got your fix and it stops you from being tempted to buy a whole pack, therein putting yourself back to step one.

All the best of luck with it. I love smoking- I know a lot of people can't or won't understand that comment- but it is still really, really hard. But the reward from giving up is great! Again, good luck!:)

this is a crazy thought but it worked.

my dh always said that anything you smoke after you turn 30 does all the damage. so he wanted to give up on his 30th. to make things easier he decided that we'd both give up.

I never thought I'd do it because I kept telling him that I've still got 3 1/2 years of smoking left and I didn't really want to give up yet.

To my amazement around came his 30th and we both gave up and that's been nearly 2 years and I think about it every now and then and then think that I don't think I could go back to being a smoker.

I did start writing down what I ate and doing the weightwatchers points but only because I was scared of putting on weight. (I'm a chef and eat all day-not always the healthy option)

So we went cold turkey and just kept our mind occupied so the urge wasn't there. Stay away from pubs and others smoking for a while though. It's so easy to say I'll just have one with this drink.

When I gave up I found eating chewing gum was helpful. Also I found meditation very good - helps calm you down. If you aren't into that, maybe take some deep breathes when you feel the urge to have a smoke - inhale deeply and slowly to the count of 3 or 4, whatever feels comfy, hold for 2 and exhale to the count of 3 or 4. Do this about 10 times or whatever feels good. When you do this try to remember to relax you jaw, neck and shoulders, maybe give them a bit of a shake.

Best of luck with it all, giving up smoking for good would be a great gift for both you and your family.
