View Full Version : chubby bubby
Indy is now 9 weeks old and i find that soooo many people have to comment on her weight as though its a bad thing!
She was born 9lb 8oz and everyone always gotta say what a little fatty she is. i find it adorable, but of course im her mum. but i just hate when people gotta turn it in to an issue! its not like she obese! and its not like she is gonna stay like that forever!. shes a breastfed bub so im sure she will fill out normally.
some people can come across offensive. i dont see what the big deal is. people with smaller or average weight babies dont get a mention so why they have to point out ones that have a couple of extra pounds argghhh
anyways more of a vent than anything.
ok, i feel better.
I agree, people can be soooo insensitive when it comes to making comments about babies, or pregnant women, or anything really!!
God forbid Indy should get sick, but if she did go off her food for a bit you don't have to worry if she looses a bit of weight. A friends son caught a bad flu, he was a small baby to begin with and ended up loosing over 1kg. It has been a struggle for them to make this up ever since.
You have a totally normal healthy bub - you should be proud and tell them so! :)

Dannii, she is a gorgeous bub. But just want to add something about this comment

Trust me, I always get comments about MJ's size as she is a skinny bub. I'm getting so sick of the "you need to feed her more" I even get it off my family as she is the smallest bub we've ever had in the family. She was 3.020kg when we left hospital & is in the healthy weight range.
People always have something to say about everything that doesnt concern them. Babies - according to the masses - are either too fat or thin, there's never a healthy medium to them. As long as we know our bubs are healthy, thats all that matters.

Indy is just gorgeous and chub on babies is what makes them so loveable! My little dude is only tiny, 6.3 kilos at 6 months, and I get some people telling me what a big healthy fellow he is, and others say he's a tiny little cutie... so most people have no idea.
If I had the choice I would love a big chubby bubba; I watch little dude's weight like a hawk, and stress before weighing him each time... so enjoy all the chub and know that you have a lovely healthy bubba.
Trust me you can't win.
When O was born his weight was at the top of the chart and his height was at the bottom. He was one chubby baby and I constantly got comments about it.
Now that he is 18 months and his weight actually matches his height (both right down the bottom), people are always telling me that he's getting really skinny and I should feed him more.

When Jesse was born at 4lb 1oz I constantly got comments re/his size.
Over and over I would hear, "oh, isn't he tiny", "look how small he is" etc etc.
It gave me the sh*ts!!!
Now at the age of 4 no one can even tell he was a premmie and so small.
With Lucas I have the opposite, at his 18mth checkup he was 17kg and 91cm tall..."gee, he'd be eating you out of house and home", "doesn't mind his food?", "what a bruiser" and on and on it goes.
It's also a little difficult when he's around toddlers his age...when the parents don't know how old he is they sometimes give me 'the glare' when Lucas tries to play and is a little rough...like he should know better.
In saying that I much prefer the bigger baby comments...somehow when your baby's small every comment seemed like they were passing judgement on how/what I was feeding him!
im sorry RB, i should have explained.. smaller (as in) smaller than my baby, "average size" babies .
i could imagine that "skinny" bubbas draw the same kind of attention just the opposite type of comments.
lukaelmo isnt it weird how u get the different comments.. 1 person says hes little and someone says hes big . Indy was little dudes weight last week (6.2 kgs) so maybe indy looks like a 6 mth old bub or maybe little dude is little? like u said everyone says diff things, and who really knows, and why does it matter about size hey? They are all still beautiful i reckon :p
This is my little guy at nearly 5 months old ...

He was a big cuddly teddy bear of a bub who had always been huge (13lb2oz at birth) and had the sweetest personality! I used to get a heap of comments about how big he was and at 8mo I had someone come up and hassle me about the fact that he wasn't walking. They said "your child will only get fatter if you don't make him walk sometimes!" ... I just replied with "and YOUR 8 month old can walk????" He just muttered an apology and walked off quickly!
Daniel took until he was just over two to double his birth weight and is now only 13.5kg!
He has just turned 3 and although this photo is of him at nearly 2 ½, you can see that he is of average build (maybe a bit on the tall side) in fact, a little skinnier than you would expect!

We now struggle to get him (and his sister - nearly 5 and 14.1kg!) to put weight on, even though they eat like horses!
People can be cruel with pointing out differences ... I met a lady at pre-school on wednesday who has a huge bub. He is gorgeous ... smiley, chubby rolls, chubby cheeks ... you know, the ones that really melt your heart! I told her how much he reminded me of my son and how much I love chubby bubs (don't get me wrong - I had a skinny one too and love her just as much!) and she was relieved to hear of someone else who had had a big bub (her son was 12lb 15oz at birth) as she was beginning to feel like he was a bit of a freak of nature! I showed her Daniel and told her how big he was at birth and she was relieved! The biggest thing was that now she knew someone else who had a baby in size 2 clothing before they were even 6 months old!
I wish people would keep their comments to themselves sometimes ...

Why do people need to make these comments
Grrrr !
So annoying !
I get the "shouldnt he be doing more" comments or the likes because bubs is big for his age !
So what ?
Chubby bubbies are the best :D Im of course biased but it was great in hospital everyone wanted to take him home LOL but then here was me freaking out over his size & wanted a "normal" baby but then i wouldnt have swapped him for the world.
Bugger what others have to say !
Indy is gorgeous & thats what my comments would be ! :D

hey i dont think there is anything wrong with anyones baby looking at all the photos they look healthy and beautiful to me ever seen the muary show when they have the large babies on there well if ur child looked like that then i think u might need to worry but ( 2 and weight as much as a 10 year old child}
nothing wrong with a baby wit little jelly roll i think its cute i no i like the way my son is i would hate for him to be to thin abd people thinking im not feeding him { not saying in one isnt but u know what i mean}

My bubs was 7kgs at 11wks & was 65cms in length.
I dont think there is a too big as every baby is different & most tend to lose it once they become active. For me i was glad a month or so ago that bubs is a big boy as he was sick with a virus & lost weight in 2 days which was really scary :( He is "cruising" now so im sure he will even out now but then he doesnt seem to want to slow down weighing around the 13kg mark at 11mths ! And is going into size 2 !!!!
my baby is 16 weeks or 9 days off 4 months old and yesterday i went and bought her nappies and i bought the crawler size because the infant size is getting too tight around the legs as she has chubby legs. Anyway this woman said to me "my god thats a big size nappy for a baby that young, she wont crawl for months yet"
i was upset by her comments because i have a 2 yr old that has always been on the big side and ive copped a lot of comments about her and now this with my new baby. Mind you the crawler nappies are pretty huge on her but i had no choice as they were the next size up.
I love my little chubbas and i wouldnt change them for the world and they have both been sick lately so ive been greatful for the extra weight.

My little girl was born at 10lbs 4oz...so I got quite a few comments (she was only 51cm too...so she was just an average length) about her weight.
She's now 6.5 months and is 10.5kg. She's also 74cm (which is above average for her age). I was told by one person recently that I shouldn't be feeding her solids - she'll just end up even more obese!
SHE'S A BABY FOR CHRIST'S SAKES! People don't understand that I didn't MAKE her bigger than average...she was just born that way. Her weight has spiralled out of control...she's put on just as much as an average bub...it's just that she started off larger and therefore is larger now.
The other day the dr told me that if she gains any more than 3 kg by the time she hits one we'll have to label her "obese" and put her on a diet. I wanted to slap him. He made me feel like I was the reason for her size...not just because she is naturally this big. She can't crawl yet (although she tries) so how is she meant to REALLY burn off any kgs?
Tell people to get stuffed...chubby bubs are cute (we even call ours "piggy" most of the time) and they don't have weight probs until they're older.
Stacey ... Chanel looks absolutely beautiful in your avatar! I think that she is probably one of the healthiest, happiest bubs I have ever seen!
I think there is way too much focus on the size of our kids as babies! They are all different, but when you look at a class full of kids just starting school - they are pretty much all the same size! Height seems to be the biggest difference in them, but most 4 and 5 yo's weigh are in similar weight to height proportions once they start school.

Hi Stacey, my DS was weighed today and he is also 10.5 kilos and he is just over 6.5 months too. The doctor told me that he is moving along really nicely so don't listen to anyone who says your bub is fat. I think chubby bubbies are gorgeous.:)
Dannii- I love chubba bubbas... Paige has little rolls and I love them.. I always love babies and toddlers who are chubbas...!
Indy is adorable!

I just wanna say that i know what its like my daughter is just 10months and 8kg and was told that she wasnt chubby that she was "FAT" yes you heard it "FAT" i could not believe it my daughter has always been petite and short and this lady with a newborn said this.Like she can compare and it wasnt exactly said politely.Hmm i saw the most gorgeous chubba bubba today he was a new born and looked about 2-3months ohh but he was so gorgeous.I dont think there is anything wrong with a chubba bubba as long as they are eating healthy and dont get sick this is what matters. They are still the same as anyone else and have a heart too.:o
