My daughter is 6.5 months old...and has been on solids since she was 4 months. So she's quite used to eating and actually ENJOYS to eat foods rather than drink a bottle.

Since she was about 4 months, I would let her "taste" MY meals...I'd hold a piece of 'whatever' up to her mouth and let her lick it, just for the taste, because she was interested.

I've been now letting her 'sample' small bits of food I'm eating. I broke off a tiny bit of bread the other day (without crust) and gave it to her to eat. She managed it well and then looked at me and opened her mouth, ready for another bit. I didn't give her more because I wasn't sure if it was healthy or not...I don't know if she's allowed to be eating that stuff yet.

When she eats jars of baby food, I often buy foods marked "7-9 months" because she seems to be able to handle the soft pieces (I accidently bought one, and gave it to her, before later realising it was meant for older babies.)...so now I just buy her those as well as foods meant for her age. It gives her more variety (she doesn't really like mashed or pureed foods I make unless it's avocado!).

What I'm wondering is...when should I start giving her things like "bread" to munch on? I know the suggested "ages"...but I'm actually wondering if there are SIGNS which are better indicators.

well i dont see the harnm in bread.... so long as its not multi grain.. their little digestive systems cant handle it & they can become clogged up. Id go with wholemeal :) she'll love noring on the crusts too!! just supervise :)

If she can handle it, and isn't choking on whole pieces, then i'd say it'd be alright. With DD1 i started buying the older bought food after a while too, as she started early, and liked the extra texture.

You'd know if she couldn't handle eating anything. Go for it!
