I am just curious if anyone does book keeping from home??
I am finding it hard to find a job that suits days I can get my mum to watch peter so I was thinking of what I could do from home just to make a bit of extra money.
Would tafe or community colleges have courses on book keeping??
I do make up aswell but work dies down in the colder months so I need something else to bring some money in.
Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

I am wanting to do a book keeping course aswell.
They used to have one through tafe but when I looked the other day I couldnt find it. So I would be interested if anyone knows also.
The courses that the TAFEs etc offer aren't all that comprehensive....
Book keeping is very time consuming - I do finance admin for work, and do DH's business book keeping at home, and it takes hours.
If you can get the quals and experience though, you can charge good money (I'm currently being head-hunted for book keeping work, and with my experience I can charge up around $60-80 an hour).

LOL I did the same... first I typed Book Keeping so got no results but then did it as one word and found it hahaha.
Dont be sorry, I don't mind :)
I'm thinking of maybe concentrating on my Make Up Business first I think... As its my passion and I have all the qualifications and have been doing it for 5yrs freelancing, so would make more sense for me to build it up rather than look at something new.

I do book keeping for my DH's busines, but I don't have any qualifications I am self taught lol.
Another option is to do resumes and things like that from home?
I will be later this year as I am going to be company sectary for my DH's business, he has no idea what he's done lol
Other things to do from home are ironing you can charge $0.50 for each item of clothing although it's very time consuming.
some real estate agents let you type up specs from home I knew someone wo did that and also data entry can be done from home.
You can advertise your services!
but with your dab had at make up you could run that from home as well get people to come to you etc, you can get a ABN and all that help pay for cosmetics etc, etc.
Good luck!
I am also mostly self taught, but I have done a number of MYOB seminars and training sessions.
I have looked at the Community college/TAFE courses, and TBH they just didn't seem to cover the stuff that I do in my job on a day to day basis  They were very basic.....
If you can afford it (both $$ and time) and you are serious about doing book keeping, try and do the MYOB Book keepers course.
I used to do bookkeeping from home with a few clients but now just do my DH's. I am also self taught, but found it too time consuming for what I was earning.

I do Accounting at Tafe. I'm up to the Diploma level but I heard through the grapevine that every book-keeper will have to have done a min of Cert IV in Accounting or a book-keeping course- is this true?
I do bookkeeping for my own business, and also did it for my previous business. I'm also pretty much self taught except for a short tafe course on MYOB (done externally). It's really time consuming... and when I can afford it I'll put on a bookkeeper. :smiliedance:
