Hi girls,

AF is due on Friday, and if it comes I plan on temping for the first time next cycle.

I need some advice though: My DH usually gets up and leaves for work at about 6am and I always wake up and roll over to snooze for another hour. So, should I temp when he gets up, or is it okay to wait until I wake up properly at 7am?

When I wake for the first time, I don't really wake up properly, it's more of a grumble then fall back to sleep :p.

Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance!

Hi hp - I think the temperature taking would be more accurate if you took it at 6am, as you're supposed to take it when you wake after at least three hours of sleep. I know it's a pain but most digital themometres have a memory and sometimes I used to take it and not look at the temp. (didn't want to open my eyes) and used to check out what it was later when I woke up properly.

It's really u though :fingerscrossed: you don't have to do it at all coz you'll get your BFP before then

Hi HP,

I believe that the temperature should be measured immediately after waking, before getting out of bed, moving or streching.

Totally by accident, I bought a digital graphic thermometer (Citizen CT915) which even has an alarm in it to measure the temperature at the same time! I had mine set up for 6am too. (and would go back to sleep till 7). It also stores the temperatures from the last 120 days.

Also according to the instructions, there is a slight temperature difference between parts under the tongue. (WTH? )

All the best. :hugs:

I'd do it at 6am for the most accurate result.

My thermometer has a memory in it that stores the most recent temp - so I'd just stick it in my mouth and go back to sleep. Take it out and throw it on the floor when it beeps that it's finished.... and then record the temp later when I got out of bed.

NikkiR - that's some fancy thermometer you got there! I didn't know they were that clever!

HP - I hope you don't need to temp either hun, but having done it myself this cycle, I really liked it as I could first of all check that my temp was doing the right thing, it confirmed I am o'ing and it was about when I thought it was. The other girls on here are probably right when they say it is more accurate if you do it at 6am, but how much different would it be if you took it at 7am? I reckon you should test it out - do it one day at both times and see what the difference is. I can't imagine it would be too much, and unless you have temps that hardly change at all, I don't think it would be necessary for it to be accurate to the 0.01 of a degree. I just have a BBT mercury thermometer that has lines every 0.05 degrees - takes a long time to get a reading - I just keep checking it until it stops going up - so I know it's not as accurate as a digital, but my temp graph has come up with really obvious dips and curves and all that, so I really don't think it matters.

wow! Sorry for all that :ecomcity: . HTH

Yep the back of your tounge is hotter than the front so make sure you always temp in the same spot, mine was a degree or so hotter back there.

Good luck girls :hugs:

Thanks for all the responses girls!
I never realised it was all so tricky!
I only have a mercury BBT thermometer, like you Fludo, but I'm starting to wonder if I should get one of those wacky-doo digital ones! I'm not the best morning person and can imagine myself stuffing up the temperatures! :p

:fingerscrossed: I won't need to do it, but I will take it on Friday morning anyway just in case AF decides to show.
