My 1 year old DS has taken to banging the windows over the last 2 weeks. Firstly it was with toys, but after numerous requests to stop this, he now continues to hit the windows with his hands. My DH and I would prefer to nip this behaviour in the bud as it could actually be quite dangerous if glass was broken and maybe not a v popular thing for him to be doing to other peoples's windows. I have tried to tell him no in varying tones of voice but he merely smiles and continues to go back hitting. I have tried taking him away from the windows, providing brief explanations why it isn't a good idea etc
I'm now thinking that as it seems to be an attention seeking thing to do that maybe the best course of action is ignoring?? But what sort of message is this sending after repeatedly telling him not to do this??
This is really the first discipline issue we have had to face. Am interested to hear from more seasoned parents whether the strategy of ignoring bad behaviour is successful or of any tips??
