Hi, I've been reading through all the threads and am getting some fantastic advice. I'm only 9 weeks and have been suffering severe all-day sickness since 5 weeks. I've tried a few things and am currently on Maxolon which is not being helpful all the time. I am ready to quit work but I can't - I am able to work from home some days which are good as I can get extra sleep and lie in bed when i'm ill, but I don't think my bosses are too convinced that this will work? I'm starting to worry about what i'm eating as I can't keep anything down and what I do eat is not essentially nutritious because it's all i can stomach....any more advice? Thanks for a great forum too!

Hi There Welcome to bub hub
I had very bad m/s with my second and endded up in hospital 3 times. I tried everything including accupunture and maxalon but nothing would stop me throwing up:( On the third time I was in hospital they gave me "Zofron" which is a drug they give to people undergoing chemo and finnaly the vomiting subsided a bit. Enough that I could drink and eat a little bit of food.
Don't worry too much about your baby not getting enought nutrients, I was told that they will actually take the calsium from your bones if they need it.
If things get too bad I would go to your local hospital, sometime just being put on a drip to rehydrate you is enought to get your body back on track.
Good luck I know it is a horribe thing but I just wanted you to know if things get really bad there is a stronger drug out there.

My saving grace was icy stuff. Things like icy pole, slurpees, frozen drinks etc. I think it helped to rehydrate me. I am so sorry you are suffering as I know what it is like. You could also try salt and vinegar chips they helped a bit and ginger beer.

Good luck and i hope it passes soon.

u poor thing i sympathise with you!@!!!!
i had terrible terrible MS. i could move for weeks
i had 2 other kids to look after but in the end DP had to take time off work coz i couldnt even stand up. weeks and weeks of desperation and i still never found anything. i tried
* sea bands.. they didnt work for me, but some women swear by them.
* MS formula (some tablets) blackmore brand
*Ginger tablets (yuck)
*Maxalon - i hated it, made me freak out!
*travel sickness tablets
etc etc .....

just eat whatever u can keep down i wouldnt worry about how nutritious it is (just make up for it later!!) i seriously was so down and depressed , i couldnt even look after my kids!
i kept a pregnancy diary, which was very hard to even write, but im glad i did. it took me a long time to et back outside, or to even drive again. i was out of action for a long time.!

i didnt think i would ever get better, i cried all the time.
but it just disappeared one day and i was so grateful! GOOD LUCK
i hope you find something that works for you.

and sorry for the long post!

There is also a herbal remedy called "Pulsatilla" some chemists stock it otherwise you may have to try a naturopath or the likes.
It apparently is a god send.
Nothing worked for me as i had hyperemesis but it did give me a few hours break here & there so its worth a try !
Otherwise as a few others have said try ginger either in tablet form, lollies or even dry ginger ale.
There are also "preggie pops" that many swear by.
Hope you feel better soon good luck :)

I am so sorry to hear you are so sick.
With my first i had maxolon , but yes it worked for the frist week then i think i got used to it and it did nothing and aslo i went a little funny, so i just put up with it.
With number 2 i tried all the same things and ended up using the drug called ZOFRAN, I got it prescribedby my O/B. It is used for cancer patients during Chemo.
I used it for a bit , but then my M/S weakened off so i stopped.
I had a healthy baby.

sea sickness bands
vegemite on dry crackers /toast helped a bit too

eat little amounts often

freshair and gentle exercise helped me alot as well - If I went for a walk in the morning I always felt better by the time I'd finished walking (even if I'd chucked on a few trees on the way) than if I just stayed indoors.

Thanks all so much! It's so nice to have someone to chat to who has been through all this - and I know it sounds selfish, but a bit of sympathy too (my work isn't very sympathetic - apparently I 'should have kept my legs crossed'!

Anyway, thanks for the advice. Yes, it seems the maxalon might be 'wearing off' or i'm becoming immune to it or something like that. I've tried the sea-bands and ginger tabs to no avail. I've found in the last couple of days though that vegemite on toast with lots of butter helps ease the nausea - must be the vitamin B6. I think everyday is just different - today i'm feeling quite good - yesterday and the days before, not so hot. Sleeping in sometimes works, other times not. Oh well, it will pass and i'm thankful for all your support and kind words.

Thanks again

I wouldnt worry too much about the nutritional value of food if its all you can stomach but i had really bad morning sickness for about 5 months and couldnt eat much at all So I went to the chemist and we got this stuff I forget what its called its in a blue tin and its a vanilla flavoured powder thing that you mix with water or milk. They give it to people in hospital that have the same problem. It doesnt quite fill you up but it helped alot. You can get it from terry white and its just in the section with all the vitamins and protein powders and that stuff. If i remember the name of it ill let you know. Hope this helps good luck

I've just ordered some for myself.

I was really bad with my first and then nothing with my second. And now with my third its pretty much all day and vomiting. I really don't know what ot do.

Where do you get these preggie pops from?????

I'm not having much luck and am now starting to really stress about things which is not good. Going to work isn't helping unfortunately.

I don't want to sound like a hypochondriac, but how bad should it get before I take myself to hospital? My Obs appt isn't until next week and I can't get in beforehand, and I feel like I've been to the GP enough that she won't be able to do more for me??? The maxolon isn't working (i haven't had injections yet) and i just can't keep most things down. I've lost over 3kgs in 5 weeks and it's just so depressing.

Thanks for all your advice still.

natski your not a hypocondriac. I went to the hospital when I could hardly stand up, my B/P was very low and my pulse was very high. In hindsite I left it a little to late to see my GP ( in fear of seaming like a whinger) and after giving me a maxalon shot I was told if I could not get some fluides in in 3 hours to go the hospital.
If you feel like you can't handle it any more I would go to the hospital. They will check for signs of dehydration and put in a saline drip to rehydrate you. Depending on how you electrolite levels are they may also put you on a potasium drip..
Good luck my hospital was great I never had to wait too long to see a Dr. I hope what ever you do things inprove soon for you.

Hi
I had very bad morning sickness from about 5 weeks and it lasted until about 18 weeks. I tried quite a few thing including some stupid audio tape that played plonky plonk music that was supposed to cure you (you can see how desperate I was) It was pretty expensive about $60 I ended up in hospial for a week on a drip and then when I got out I ended up having to take a month of work and just spend it in bed. Luckily I had a very understanding boss whose wife is a midwife.
I have to say though you do forget how bad you felt.

It is very important to make sure you stay hydrated!!! My doctor told me to drink very weak sports drink. I was very lucky to also have a very understanding GP and OB.

My doctor put me on Phenergen (sp??) because the Maxalon didn't work. Was in hopsital dehydrated as i couldn't even keep water down. It seemed to ease the morning sickness a little bit. I ended up living off plain popcorn and porriage for most of my pregancy because they are very bland when you throw them up and don't seem to repeat on you at all. I also sucked on sugar lollies as i found the sugar helped my nausea a little.

Hope it doesn't last too long as it can make being pregnant a real downer.

Janet.

Hi All,

I had my first obstetrician appt last week. He's got me on stemetil suppositories (yuk i know) but they are working SO brilliantly! I've had one day (sunday) being sick and every other day i feel great - even back at work today! YAY! He told me to admit myself into hospital if it didn't help so i'm relieved to say it has! I only have 2 repeats so I'm hoping and praying that this is the end of it (i'll be 12 weeks on friday). To anyone else, if you're seeing an obstetrician and have bad M/S, don't leave it too late like I did!

Thanks again for all your advice!
