Hi

I'm due to have my first bub & think I'm coming down with a bad cold... Right now the only symptoms I have is I went to bed with a very itchy throat, & woke up with a coarse sort of a cough... My partner, who I live with in a small unit, caught a bad virus last thurs & I've tried to avoid him as best I can to prevent getting sick (although we live together in a very confined space) Neither of us have left the unit over the last 4 days as I don't drive or have anywhere I can go, & it has been raining here... When he first got sick last week it hit him pretty hard & he was suffering from really bad headaches/chills/body ache, etc & I'm so scared that I might be coming down with the same thing..

Anyone know what would this mean if I was to get sick before giving birth?
Is there anything I can do or take in hopes of trying to prevent getting any worse than just a cough?

I am making an appointment to see my GP this arv but I don't even know that they'll be able to fit me in, or whether they can prescribe anything for someone who is pregnant?

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful...

Lol..........:p

Umm. No replies. :crying:

I couldn't get an appointment with my GP today, & definitely coming down with flu-like symptoms... so does anyone know what this would mean if I go into labour with a cold? Or does this not mean anything?

Has this happened to anyone?

Awwww, that really sucks for you! What is your EDD?

I would try and find out if you can take some ecchinacea - perhaps call a nurse or your DR/midwife and ask for some advice.

Rest as much as posible and drink lots of water. Not much help I know, but I think it's just one of those things:thumbsdown:

Hope you are better soon - you can come over to the August chat if you want to ask some other August-to-be-mums for more advice.

Can I?

Dose up on vit C, rest, and drink lots of fluids. Use steam to clear your nose and sinuses and ride it out. Your body knows what it is doing. It will look after you and your bub. You will find that even if you are sick when you go into labour, you won't even notice in the excitement and hormones of the big day. Try and rest up though. Hope you are feeling better soon.

This is a really old wives tale but my SIL swears it works.
Make a steamy hot foot bath and put a couple of tablespoons of mustard in it then soak feet until water is going cold.

Thanks girls, I just got home to your replies!

I'll give all of the above a go...

The first night that my partner had with this virus he was in soo much pain, so I'm desperately trying to avoid getting as sick as what he claimed to be.

Cheers for the tips! I will join the August mummy threads too...
