Can anyone tell me why my dh gets thrush and i dont, well i dont have any symptoms. Seems that my hubby always gets a bout of it every 6 months but i am never affected and well TMI i know but we do have sex a few times a week.

I know he aint been sleeping around LOL as we have been busy with moving and organising houses etc the last 8 months or so!

I would have thought if he had it (like his got it full blown at the moment) i would surely get it but i havent got it yet! Am i just lucky :D

There is a very high possibility that you do have it and you are just asymptomatic (dont show any symptoms). I would suggest you both treat yourself at the same time and also get your DH to start taking something like yakult or the likes to try and get the flora back to normal in his body.

Don't panic hon, it's quiet 'normal' for men to get thrush. All it is is a yeast infection which is also called candida.

The things that set thrush off are : Low immune system, sex, diabetes and antibiotics

I'll copy and post what the treatments are....

How's it treated?

If you're having any of these symptoms for the first time, then it's best to get them checked by your doctor to confirm it's thrush and not another infection.

Good hygiene and saline baths help, and keeping under the foreskin dry is essential.

If you've had thrush before and recognise its symptoms, you can get an anti-fungal cream (clotrimazole) from the pharmacist, without a prescription. Keep applying the cream for as long as it takes for the symptoms to clear up and then for an additional two weeks.

When one partner is having treatment the other should be treated at the same time to prevent the infection getting passed back again. Sex should be avoided if possible during treatment, but if you do have sex, use a condom.

A well-balanced diet low in fats and sugar, together with a healthy lifestyle of regular activity and enough rest, should help prevent recurrence.

The golden rule, of course, is that if treatments fail to solve the problem, or you're worried, then go to your GP, practice nurse or the local genito-urinary clinic (previously known as the VD clinic) for advice.

HTH

ETA: I should have read your thread properly.. I have no idea why you don't get. You're obviously lucky!

I agree.

It was the opposite in our house. I was always getting it but hubby wasn't. Was told by the doctor to treat him anyway as he is probably the one re-infecting me. Could be what is happening to him. You could be carrying it and reinfecting him when his body is succeptable.

Poor fella, it sux. I had it the whole nine months of my second pregancy and nothing cleared it up.

Hi Punk Baby.I am new and just thought that I could share a funny story with you . I was getting thrush really badly every month.... I tried countless different contraceptives, but they all gave me thrush. Well funny enough I stopped the contraceptives and voila 6 weeks pregnant with my third baby and I couldnt be happier.Tell your husband that he needs to start with lowering his sugar intake and get a good dose of Candesen cream.... Poor thing Its not very nice.Good Luck

Good luck punkbaby, thrush is a nightmare!!
I had it every time i was pregnant without fail :(
The doc reckoned hubby kept re-infecting me too, so rather than just me being treated as usual, hubby treated himself as well and hey presto - neither of us have had thrush again - touch wood!
