View Full Version : Weight gain in pregnancy, please help me out
I am due to have my first bubba any day now... :yelclap: Am so excited/anxious/overwhelmed all at once! I just want to be holding my little girl in my arms.
I just need some reassurance, if possible, because I've been stressing for months now.
I am curious if there are women out there who have put on very little weight during their pregnancy & yet gone on to have a very healthy bub?
I was 63 kilos when I found out that I was pregnant, & now at almost 40 weeks I weigh 68.7 kilos... Which is only almost a 6 kilo increase.
I'm so baffled, because friends of mine who are my same age (21), who have recently had babies gained so much more weight than I have.. & the majority of them were smaller or around the same size as me before falling preg... I have 5 friends from school/back home who I can think of who have had bubs in the last year or so...
I eat well too. Has anyone out there not gained a great deal of weight in pregnancy but everything has turned out completely fine with their little one?
Love to hear from anybody.

All my bubs were small (nothing over 6pound) i gained around 7-10 kgs each pregnancy. They were fine too. This bubs i have gained about 5kgs so far bubs is tiny apparently still but strong as well.
Some people gain lots of weight my sister gains around 20kgs but still has small babies as well. Dont stress sounds about normal just because you havent put on alot of weight doesnt meant bubs wont be healthy :)
Good luck

All I can say is - soak it up! I gained 30kg and I'm still trying to lose it. If your healthy, eating well and your gaining cm's (rather than kg's) then I wouldn't worry about it.
Congratulations and best wishes on the birth of your new baby!
Thank you ladies,
Muchly appreciated. :)
I feel like I'm losing my mind lately! Rather than thinking positively about my babies impending arrival, all I seem to think about is the fact that I haven't gained weight & that maybe there is something wrong!
It helps so much hearing other people's experiences...

Weight i gained:
DD1 ( i was 48kg's) - 5.5kg's ( she was 2950gms)
DD2 -(45 kg's) - 4kg's ( was 2835gms)
Baby 3 (due soon)(45kg's) - 7kg's
I have to say not one DR or Midwife has ever worried about my weight at all during my pregnancies either.
Also i have only ever been weighed at the start of a pregnancy and never after that.
Oh, and do not worry about the CM ( fundul height), i never measured right. Always small.
My babies were all fine and healthy when they were born.

I gained 7kg in 42 weeks of pregnancy... and my daughter was born at 4.67kg... so she was no small baby!
It can depend how you eat during pregnancy and how you exercise too... I didn't exercise a lot or anything, but I did eat pretty well. A lot of women tend to have junk-food cravings, and some eat LOTS of food... I couldn't handle the smell of anything too unhealthy while pregnant, so I only ate really healthily, and I also couldn't eat as much as I normally would... and thus lost weight and only gained baby weight.
After DD's birth (about a week after it) I was 7kg lighter than my pre-preg weight...
Thanks so much for your replies girls, really helped to alleviate some of my worries... I have turned into such a stress head lately... lol, I love being pregnant but it sure can be draining at times. I can't wait to have my little one, should be any day now!
I can't believe some women can hardly gain any weight & yet end up having huge bubbas... now I am worried about that. Lol! jokes...

I think as long as you're eating healthy and doing plenty of exercise, you should be fine.
I put on 30kg while I was pregnant, and now only have another 3 or 4 to lose. I did Aqua Aerobics, Yoga and walked a lot while I was pregnant. My daughter was almost 9lbs.
I started at 69kg with second pregnancy and only got to 77.5kg. DD was 7lb5oz
