Nepean Hospital

Has anyone had an experiences with Nepean Hosp at Penrith - I am moving and have to shift hospitals when I'm 8 mnths pg, am a public patient, currently at RNS, and they are great!!!Nepean will be the closest hosp but is it the best in the area???? Any advice would be great!!!!

I birthed my second child at Nepean in 1994 and I was a public patient. I was induced via the drip as baby was two weeks past due date and I only had midwives in attendance. All my birthing requests were honored and I found the staff to be very supportive. Although I was kept in overnight because of excess bleeding, the staff let me do my thing which was co-sleep and breastfeed - they were able to assess whether I was coping or not and only helped if and when I needed their help. Although my birthing at Nepean Hospital was 12 years ago ( come March ) it was a very positive experience for me which I am very happy about. I hope the years to now hasn't changed their approach too much because back then the support was everything you could ask for.

Hi there,
I gave birth to my son peter in Nepean Hospital in Dec 04.
I have bad and good experiences from there....
My bad experiences was that after i gave birth, i found they were VERY busy and it was hard for them to give me the support and help that i needed, especially regarding breast feeding.
During my labour though i couldn;t have asked for anything more, i had two mid wifes, one left quit early as her shift ended, but the one who came in to replace her was FANTASTIC! She helped so much and was lovely! :)
My bad experience may have just been due to them being short staffed etc....but other than that i had a good experience.

Great - it;s good to get reassuring advice!!! Sounds like it's the best and obvious choice in the area!!!Anyone else any opinions?????

I am also interested if anyone has any other experiences at Nepean. I will be having my first baby there in July and would be nice to know what I am in for. Thanks.

I had my bubs at Nepean Private....fantastic.

I've been a support person for someone who had their bubs at Nepean Public and they didn't have such a good experince. But i've heard of people having some good experinces just lately. They mentioned the same thing about experinces after the birth...not having many nurses/midwives around to help out.

Nepean private always had a lactation consultant...and they always had someone available to you. I had a great experience.
