I guess i am semi freaking out and thinking the worst here but when should we worry about the flu just with all these outbreaks and deaths lately with children in particular.

DS was up all night quiet warm and his nose was really runny his nose is red raw this morning from rubbing and wiping it etc. Overall apart from looking off colour his gota sparkle in his eye his drinking quiet alot but his just happy to lay there on the lounge and do nothing.

I am not overly concered as yet but as it hits so quick i cant help but wonder if i should worry or is it more so when temps get too high and they get lathargic in a bad way?

Thanks

i'm so confused by the whole thing. i have checked about the immunisations for flu, and was recommended against it for my children. but then when a man died in adelaide recently, there was a dr on TV saying 'it's not too late to get your immunisations".

i thought it was only meant for high risk children ( i can't remember how they were determined) and the elderly. this man was 48.

i don't know what i'm meant to do.

They say to watch for fatigue/lethargy
persistant high temps (like 40+) that wont go down with panadol
persitant cough

also they say if your child has been sick for a few days then not to worry.

We spent two nights at the hospital and that is what they had posted on the walls and windows etc.

he come down with it last night his temp sits on about 39 thats with panadol i am doing nurofen in between though which brings it down to about 38.5. Overall his eyes are sparky if that makes sense but in general his just miserable. Might just see if he gets worse and take it from there i just heard that it hits pretty quick thats all so worry a little :(

yeah with the other kids apparently they showed a few symptoms then went down hill within a matter of hours.. I'd say just keep a close eye on him.

This flu thing is extremely worrying. DD was in hospital on Thursday with a temp of 41. They swabbed her mucus (a very unpleasant test) and found out she has it. She had her Flu vac 10 days prior so obviously it hadnt taken effect.

She also has 2 infected ears and conjunctivitis. She is on the mend now but we were so worried on Thursday. I have since caught it myself and am feeling dreadful. I have had a fever (though not as high as DD's) and terrible body aches and vomiting. Today the runny nose has started.

I dont know how I will cope this week looking after DD and myself. DH has already taken time off to care for DD while i worked last week so I am going to be on my own at home

A lady died last week in the Royal Adelaide Hospital and I have been worrying so much about this, she was even working the day before she died!

I cant wait for the winter to be over
