I just wanted to know what you girls think....
Me and hubby are getting Petey christened on the 26th of this month.
We went to our preperation morning last sunday and i felt SO out of place....ALL the baby's were like 6months or younger.
We wanted to get Peter christened earlier but with my having PND, organising a wedding and having major issues with Bretts family in his first year of life, we just didn't get the time (or money) to!
So is it bad that we left for this long?? I just feel uncomfortable being the only one with a child over one!:o

You're never 'too old' to become a part of God's family!!!:D
I love Christenings/Baptisms...I was never more proud of my beautiful little boys than on their Baptism day - there we were surrounded by our family & friends, welcoming a beautiful little soul into God's great big family.
My Goddaughter was Baptised last year...she was 9 and she personally chose me to be her Godmother...I was so honoured.

A christening is about the child becoming a member of God's family, and the parents vowing to bring their child up as a Christian. I don't think it matters how old the child is! :)

If the church you wanted to get it done at had a problem with it, go to another church. If they don't have a problem with it, there is really no issue.
I was christened at 7 (didn't take), and the first church my mother went to refused to do it, so she found one who would.
Hi Natalie, no he is not to old :)
As the other girls have said (and as Carly did so beautifully, i loved that post!) it doesnt matter what age you are baptised.
I have been to a few christenings where the parents wait till they have finished their family and then get all their children done at the same time, makes for a wonderful family celebration :)
Give Peter a big kiss and hug from all his Bubhub Aunties, lol, on his Christening day! :)

Thanks girls :)
Yeah the church has no problems with it...
My main time of being "uncomfortable" was when we had to stand up in front of everyone through mass and introduce ourselves....everyone had these quiet, sleeping babies and there was us with this little toddler who wanted to be free to walk around everywhere...needless to say we had to struggle to keep him in our arms lol ....
I also felt kind of guilty being there, as we dont go to church much at all, it kind of felt like we shouldn't be there...But i have to admit, it did make me want to try going to church a lot more, but i doubt my husband would want to...i just think it could be a lovely positive thing for us to do!:)

Hi Nat,
It's never to late to have a child christened, i have just had my 3rd (and Last) child and i am planning to have them all christened at the same time. My children are 9,3 and 1 month.
My first sons father did not want him christened and after a bad expirience with our local priest when he was 5 (i was not separated) i had not had any of the boys christened.
Don't worry about what other people think it's what is important to you. On the day if you do feel out of place think of me and have a giggle i'll be having 3 children christened on the one day all with their own set off godparents and much to the shock of the priest my daughter will be having 2 godmonthers instead of the normal godmother and father. Apart from that you are welcoming your children into God's house and everybody is welcome God does not judge!
Enjoy your day
Cheers

Nat, Aj will be nearly 15months when he is christened! My DF wasn't christened till he was 14months too and it kind of runs in his family having a late christening!
Its never too old to be christened! Don't forget ppl get christened in thier 20's, 30's, 40's etc.....

Thanks girls for your support :) It means alot!

Just to add my 2 cents worth in - I don't think age is an issue.
I have to share though - my nephew was christened at about 18 months - my sister's greatest fear was that when the priest was going through the questions of the godparents, one is which is something like "do you reject Satan"? that the darling little toddler would yell "NOOOOOO" at the top of his voice! Luckily he didn't!

I think at 14 months that the only thing baby is too old for in respect of a Christening is a really long old style gown that hangs way past their feet - just for the sake of practicality.
Other than that, even adults are baptised/christened.

Hrmmmmz.
Isnt it sad when we worry about such things ! Especially as isnt it bad enough we are stressed out over many things with our babies !
God welcomes babies children & adults at any age so dont worry about others.
My nephew was 9 mths or so when he was christened because my sister wanted him to be old enough to enjoy the celebrations & the cake LOL !
Whereas i chose to wait till bubs birthday because i figured well being his first its a great celebration & everyone will want to be there so why not combine them ! Now of course my outlaws cant make it because as any new grandparents would do they book a holiday for that period !!!! ( yeah im really worried about that too :p )
Anyways so bubs has his birthday celebrations & his blessing on the 11th of March & it is going to be great & very family orientated as my cousin will be performing the ceremony as we had the dramas with not being married yet so not many priests will do it :(
As i said before dont worry about others God wouldnt even frown upon you if you chose not to have bubs christened until he was old enough all that matters is faith ! :D
If i went to a Church (which i dont actively go to) would they do it if i was single? My daughter is nearly 22 months.
I would certainly hope so:) It says in the Bible to baptise all - make disciples of al lthe nations!! Our church would definately do it:)
Nat, my DH was baptised at 31:D My kids havent been baptised yet - we are waiting for them to make the decision (Toby is about ready now - he's almost 6.) Dont feel weird, God wouldnt want you to feel weird, He will be glad you are doing it!!

Please go tell this to the catholic priests LOL !
No wonder i have started to turn my back on the church !
But yeah it all depends on the church & minister catholics tend to be very hard line but then i was hoping to get my bubs done at the church my grandparents attended to have the priest who is a family friend say he wouldnt do it due to us not being married go figure
Anyways they arent all like this & im glad my cousin is doing bubs ceremony now as it will be so much more lighter fun & personal. Just how God would want it :D
Nope, I think they can never be too old! :p

Nat- i hope your well:) i havent see you on here for a while!
I didnt get my son christened untill he was 1 as i had he`s first birthday and christening together, it was a doulble christening when i had my sons done (i didnt know that untill the day) and the other baby getting christened was only 6 weeks old, so you can imagtion how funny it looked! I say go for it its not too old at all!
I was 8 and my sister was 2 when we were christened. It wasn't as if we hadn't been going to church regularly from birth, just that our parents decided to wait and were never condemned for doing so.
We had our dd dedicated when she was approx 4 weeks old, but out ds is now 3 and we have yet to have him dedicated. We will be doing it some time this year.

Thanks Girls :)
Allyoo I was so nervous too! Lol....but in the end it wasn't too bad...we didn't have to stand up infront of everyone the whole time so that was good :D
Good luck with everything im sure it will be perfect for you sweetie :hugs:
My grandparents are very involved in their church and when i was about 5 i wanted to be christened but my mum said i had already been christened, so i told her that i didnt remember. So the next sunday at church i got to be christened again. I remember we used to sit in the back row and when the minister called my name i strutted down to the front of the church and i was christened again :smiliedance:
