Doula Jane

I'm a doula and have quite a lot of experience with different kinds of births, but I was just recently blown away by a wonderful birth. My mum was carrying breech twins (they were both breech from about 32 weeks). We tried various things to try to get at least twin 1 to go cephalic (head down) but it wasn't to be...... So..... Doc wanted to do a c-section at 36 weeks, but Mum asked for another week if everything was going well (which it was!). So mum, her hubby and I arranged to meet at 37 weeks, at the hospital at 6.40am, for her scheduled c-section. However.....the twins had other ideas!!!!! My mum called me at 2am that morning and her membranes had spontaneously ruptured (after a lovely meal out with her hubby, and a glass of good red wine!). I arrived at the hospital an hour later (3am) to find her labouring hard and 6cm dilated! The night staff were frantically calling the c-section team to get them out of bed and into the hospital! About half an hour later mum was 8cm dilated and still no team! Doc arrived fairly soon after, and we were whizzed down to theatre................at which point mum had a very strong urge to push. In spite of being told "don't push" and "close your legs" by the doc, those bubs were on their way and she listened to her body and did what came naturally.......First came one tiny little bottom, doc assisted the legs out (they were both frank breech) and out came beautiful twin 1 (a very healthy and vigorous 6lb boy), followed 10 minutes later by another gorgeous little bottom, legs and finally another beautiful, healthy 6lb boy! Apgars of 9/9 for both of them. I was just BLOWN AWAY!!! :smiliedance: :smiliedance: :smiliedance:

I feel so blessed and fortunate to have witnessed such an amazing and unique birth. It was such a privilege for me......

I trust womens bodies....they know how to birth babies. This amazing experience has just compounded that belief in the power of a birthing woman and it's intrinsic and intuitive abilities.

WOW!

That's just fantastic! I'm grinning from ear to ear :D

Birthing twins vaginally in a hospital is hard enough, but to birth them breech is pretty well unheard of!

Oooh I feel all warm and fuzzy.... :yelclap: :yelclap: :yelclap:

Thank GOD the c-sec team didn't get there in time :D

One of my very good friends had twin bubbas two weeks ago - vaginally, in a hospital. They WERE head down - and although her Obs mentioned the possibility of c-sec to her, it wasn't just assumed that that's what was going to happen. I'm so pleased for my friend that she got the birth she wanted, and two happy and very healthy little girls :)
