Turns out my regular obstetrician is most definitely not giving me my elective c/s...he's on holiday then! How dare he? :p

He's recommended his FIL who is also an ob at the SAN - Dr Campbell.

Does anyone know of this ob?

Have had friends that went to Dr Campbell, and were very happy with his care. One had a Caesarean and had no problems.

I had Dr Gordon Campbell as a fill in while my ob was on holiday. I wasn't entirely thrilled - he told me I was dead after one test he did. But I've spoken to other people who really liked him and the midwife I had on the ward said he had delivered her two children.

Can I ask who you normal ob is?

My normal ob is Dr Andrew Booker who is just the sweetest, best doctor I know. Just so sad he can't deliver my bubs. :rain:

Dr Gordon Campbell is his father-in-law and is apparently a senior member of the board at the SAN. I asked my paed about him and he said he is a very experienced senior doctor.

At this stage (32 weeks) I don't really have many options, so I'll probably go along with him.

abibelsmum: Is him telling you that you were dead (very odd thing to say!) the only complaint you had about him? Is there anything else you didn't like about him?? What would you have liked to be different?

Thank you so much for your feedback!!!

Hi Mummy2Sophie
I went to him while my ob (Dr Paul Sanders) was away to have a check at around 35 weeks. He told me my blood pressure was up - possible sign of Pre-eclampsia. I thought it might have been because I was getting stressed trying to finish everything up at work. I had to keep going back to get checked and was told if my blood pressure went higher he would consider inducing the baby earlier. After a stressful couple of weeks thinking I may have the baby early, my ob came back and he checked me and my blood pressure was back to normal. By this stage I had finished work so that may be all it was, but I now associate Dr Campbell with probably the most stressful period of my first pregnancy even though what he was doing was probably the correct thing. Everyone else I've talked to always speak of him in glowing terms so I'm sure he will be fine. And if I had delivered on a weekend I may well have had him.

Hi abibelsmum: thank you so much for that info. It's highly unlikely that he will find my blood pressure high...last pregnancy it was dangerously low!

He sounds perhaps a little quick to alarm. Or perhaps he just hasn't learned how to be soothing. It's like our GP who told us DD had herpes!! Sent a shiver down my spine until he explained that cold sores are a strain of the herpes virus and nothing to worry about. *sigh* it's so hard to find a doctor with great bedside manners these days. Missing my regular ob already.

Thanks again!

Hi, just popped in to relay my experience. I had Dr Campbell for both my pregnancies. I found him to be dry in an amusing way. He is to the point and very very calm. He is a phlegmatic personality type. He has a great deal of experience and visits were not drawn out or fussy. He responded to any questions I had. He doesn't worry you uneccessarily. I had GDM with bub #1.

Unfortunately he was away relieving a coleague undergiong cancer treatment when bub#1 was born. I had Dr Sanders fill in and was grossly disappointed.

Dr Campbell delivered bub #2 and was very very calm when presented with the cord around baby's neck twice! So in control that I didn't fathom the extent of the situation. And I had no drugs so I was very alert! He still allowed my husband to cut what was left of the cord and was sympathetic that he had not been able to do it properly. He was very encouraging about my efforts in labour too.

Quite a funny man. When he arrives at delivery he pops in and asks if he has time for a milo just about everytime he delivers. I found his relaxed manner very infectious and did not find him alarming in the slightest.

That was long-winded but just wanted to share. I am expecting again but think he has retired now. I would go with him again in a heartbeat!

I have 2 children already. Dr Campbell was referred to me for my third pregnancy, we had moved and are relatively new to NSW so different ob's for each child. I'd heard some good reports and some not so good. My personal experience wasn't good from the start. He seems nice enough but I never felt connected with him. I don't feel that he monitored my personal progression or took my concerns into account, and after having a still born baby at 24 weeks was given an unsatisfactory answer to what went wrong. Despite having to give birth to my son, he kept referring to my late miscarriage! There was no follow up phone call from his office nor the SAN hospital, I had my baby and was sent home the next day without him to carry on with my life. I'm sure he is a capable ob but my personal experience was diabolical and I couldn't fathom recommending him based on this. I do know he is retiring January so that takes care of that!
