View Full Version : Turning a Breech Baby
My sister is going to give birth in approx 4 weeks. Her baby is in breech position. The Dr wants to manually turn the baby if it hasn't turned in 2 weeks.
I have heard that there are less invasive ways to make the baby turn by itself. Has anyone used any and been successful?

I had a breech baby. I hadn't heard of methods of trying to get her to turn so the dr tried it manually at around 37 weeks, with no luck.
I know there have been posts on here with suggestions for encouraging bub to turn head down. I think you basically need to position yourself to give bub maximum room to turn around. Lots of time on hands and knees. If you search the forum for the term "spinning" (as in spinning babies) you should come up with something.
Good luck to your sister.
Thanks I will look it up now.
May I ask: did you give birth breech or did you have to have a caesarian?

Little dude was breech at 37 weeks and I went to a shen therapist for acupunture and massage :D
The dude turned...
The therapist was recommended to me by the midwives at the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital.

I had a c/s. Chloe was a frank breech with her legs straight & feet up by her ears. My ob didn't give me the choice of trying to deliver, I'm not sure I'd have been able to with that presentation and also the size of her head.

Hi there
You might consider consulting with an osteopath who specialises in paediatrics. Osteopathy is a bit like physio and a bit like chiro, but with more training and a more holistic approach. Generally osteo's use gentle techniques, particularly those with paediatric training or those that are cranial osteopaths. I have been seeing one throughout my pregnancy for general body stuff and I know she has had some success turning breach babies.
Perhaps you could contact the Aust. Osteopathic Association and ask them for a practitioner close to you who specialises in children, pregnancy, etc.
Just an idea - good luck!!:)

Hi
My DD was in breech and they suggested if we had a bath to fill it up as much as possible and have me kind of floating on my belly.
We have a spa so thats what I did every night - float. Also when ever possible when you are standing lean forward - like find a chair or bench top so that you can use that as a support and but both hands in front of you.
The midwives told us that this helps the baby move freely.
Anyway by 36 weeks I was starting to freak and what would you know, in the early hours of the morning I had to get up (as you do:rolleyes: ) and it was the weirdest thing, but I could see and feel my belly do this huge roll.
I am really serious that is what happened. Anyway I had my weekly check up later that morning and it was also going to be the day they would try to turn dd and hey presto she was the right way up/down you know what I mean.
Hope this helps, good luck.
