Hi,
I am taking my 12 month old on a 6 hour car trip and just wanting some tips - have you found anything simple that engages your todler on long car trips?

Thanks

my kids hate the car :( i have to say though i never thought i would see myself using one but i got one of those portable dvd players that hang over the back head rest! best thing ever! The kids were happy during their wake times it was heaven!

Other than that you can sing songs that bubs enjoys make sure you stop every few hours to get out and have a stretch as well

I'd plan the trip around sleeps my kids at 12 months wouldn't last more than an hour or two awake and 'happy' sitting in the car. We'd probably leave just before afternoon sleep time, have a decent stop and play for dinner and then hopefully they'll go to sleep shortly after that.

i have found that most kids sleep for most of the way, ( i do 6 hour drives every couple of months) the earlier you leave the more they sleep. we take plenty of food, toys books, there favirote music, make shore you have a varity or you will get sick of it.
Most important make time to stop every couple of hours so they can have a run around, so not to get to boared.

I hope this helped, good luck.

I plan really long drives like that around sleep times and allow extra time for lots of stops :)
My bub is 12 mths and the longest she can go and be happy without a stop is about 2.5 hrs if she isn't asleep.

When DD was around 12 months, we'd leave about four five in the morning and she'd sleep for 2-3 hours. We'd have a stop and let her out for a bit and then back in the car with food and books and toys.

Forgot to mention that I try to take a few new toys or toys that she has forgotten about so are "new" again iykwim, keeps her interest longer than something that she has access to or plays with everyday :)
