Cadence is 4 months old and got prescribed Zantac. I tried giving it to her by squirting it in her mouth with a eye dropper but she spat it straight back at me any ideas on how to get it in her????

To begin with I kept my finger in DS's mouth so he couldn't spit it out - now he opens his mouth willingly.

I just laid dd back a little bit and squirted a little bit at a time so she could swallow each bit.....for 1.3ml i think it was it took like 5 squirts.

Try a spoon.

Hold her tight. Get the dropper and slide in down the back of her mouth along the inside of her cheek. IF it is squirted at the back of her mouth she has no choice but to swallow. Blowing in her face helps.

My GP suggested we add it to the formula milk so do that and he drinks it no problem. Only down side with that is if bubs doesn't finish the bottle then might not get the full dose........I give it the first feed in the morning as Liam usually drinks the whole bottle and the 6pm feed at night. If BF aim the syringe inside and squirt down the side of the mouth like others have said. You might have to push it in a bit otherwise bubs will spit it out again!

Try using a dummy.

I keep the dummy in their mouth and then slowly put one squirt in at a time. Each time i squirt i then move the dummy around and encourage them to suck and swallow. I wait for the swallow and for them to start sucking the dummy again and then i do another squirt. Never had an issues this way either!

It's a long process but it's better this way or blowing in their face like others suggested, because then you know they get it all. Nothing worse than not knowing how much they got, and then having a crappy day because they didn't get the meds.

Goodluck.

I don't now about mixing it in anything - I heard something about it not working as effectively if mixed with something. The pamphlet it says "Do not mix with anything, even water"

Also, I heard that you are supposed to give it on an empty stomach ie 20 mins before each feed.

I have never heard that before:detective:

I've heard about it not being mixed in with their formula.

But 20 mins before a feed? I was told it didn't matter whether it was before or after a feed or at any particular time. As long as you alway give the same doses at the same time everyday- something about the sugar level. It makes sense to do it the same time (roughly) each day.

I gave it to my DS1 & 2 before a feed, but literally 5 mins before and it still worked.

However, i have heard that losec is supposed to be 30 mins before a feed?

This is for both Losec and Zantac.......It doesn't need to be given on an empty stoamch as it has an accumulative effect that starts after about 24-48 hours after the initial dose. You are not supposed to mix it with milk cause if they don't drink all the bottle it's impossible to know how much they have had. It doesn't hurt the med to be mixed cause I give to my daughter down her tube so it's mixed then. The same time each day ensures the correct dose

My Pead has told me to express some milk and mix it with that as it tastes awful and is hard to get into bubs..(so true,i tasted a bit on my finger and nearly threw up! LOl...

I give DS Zantac three times a day before a feed.In a bottle mixed with a little breast milk so i DO know he is getting it..
