I have never bought anything online. I finally signed up for internet banking today (yes, I know I am a bit behind the times.) What I wanted to know is can you make purchases online somehow using your bank account online?

Or do you haveto have a credit card??

You can select the Direct Deposit option when purchasing then you take down the account details and make a transfer from your account.

Yep, and it is SO much better than shopping in stoopid malls.

FUN awaits you!!!

A lot of online business accepts bank deposits as payment. You can also set up a paypal account using your bank details you can send echeques.

If you want to make a few purchases online, (including eBay) I recommend opening a free account with www.paypal.com.au (http://www.paypal.com.au)

It basically acts as a third party between you and the seller. You can pay by creditcard or from your bank account. The seller gets the money instantly so it's quicker and it can also offer some protection if things go sour.
You can also buy things from the US and other countries as it does a currency conversion for you. My family live in the UK and they send their money to me via paypal before they come to visit... it's brilliant!

This is how I make the majority of my purchases now. Me and my post lady are quite friendly :D

I just fill up the cart, at the checkout choose direct deposit, and when I get the confirmation email, go into my net banking and tranfer the money into thier bank account! Wa La! A few days later a package of beautiful fabric or nappies is on my doorstep :smiliedance:

Yep, I use direct deposit. I don't have a credit card, so it's pretty much my only option!

There's a section for cloth nappies in the BH directory.

There's lots of shops... Darlings Downunder, The Wee Wuns and Nurture Nappies tend to have a fair chunk of different brands...

There's a few others too.

And some that stock brand-specific nappies (like the Baby Beehinds website).

Paypal is so great, and ours pays using money we already have, not our credit card :) It only uses our credit card should there not be enough funds in our savings account. If that's the case, then I shouldn't be shopping anyway!!

The main downside is that paying by direct deposit offers you no buyer protection at all. Paypal's protection is very limited (it sounds better than it is). With a credit card you can do a chargeback if you're not supplied with the goods.

You can get "credit cards" that basically have a zero credit balance, and use those.
