Hi everyone,
This morning I woke up at 5am in extreme pain. The back of my neck, in the middle, kinda above my shoulder blades, kinda where your neck meets your back, iykwim, is killing me.
It hurts SO bad. I can't lie down, I can't hold my head straight, I can't really move it at all, it hurts SO MUCH.
It is the most intense pain I've ever experienced.
I called my doctor and he said to go to the hospital. So I went to the hospital and got checked out, and the doctor said it was just a pulled muscle and not my neck muscles were kinda spasming.
But it really feels like it's the bone, not the muscle, iykwim.
He gave me some muscle relaxants but they haven't helped at all.
Does this sound like all it is is a pulled muscle? Can pulled muscles really be this painful?
It sounds like A Wry (sp?) neck. I had one and it was omg, sooooooooo painful. And as u described. I went to the gp who refered me to a physio. Did nothing. Then went to chiro and I walked out of the appt as if nothing was ever wrong!
You poor thing I did the same thing not long ago. I rolled over in bed and felt the tear as I did it. Extremely painful and my neck was at a 90 degreee angle so painful to move, couldn't straighten my head.
I went and had a remedial massage which was painful but helped a lot. I was also told to put a heat pack on it and that helped too. So if you can't get to a massage try a heat pack.

I would find a good physio in your area to have a look at you. They will probably require xrays before touching you but it will be worth it.
I damaged my neck back when i was really young & physio has & still is the best thing.
In my experience doctors are useless at treating muscular problems.
This needs to be treated by a good massuse or bowen therapist:thumbsup:
In the mean time heat pack, hot shower and a massage may help.
Hope you can get some one to look at it soon.
I can sympathise it does hurt.

Thanks guys, ok so it really CAN be this painful
Angel Zara, that's what he said, a Rye/Wry or whatever neck
Ok, so I think I'll put a heatpack on it, maybe have a bath. I rang up my mum crying so she came and got the girls for me :o
If it's not a bit better in the morning I think I'll call a Chiro/Physio and see if it's worth a visit.
I can't believe a pulled muscle could possibly be this painful!

Accupuncture! It helps heaps with sore necks :)
Heat pack and a gentle neck rub. And some pain pills as well as the muscle relaxant. You might find that as it goes, you'll ng headache, too.
I know EXACTLY how you feel. Really I do. It totally sucks.

Nothing worse than a pain in the neck  sorry had to add that...
Seriously tho, am feeling ur pain. Dont know if its the same injury as yours but my neck virtabrea were twisted and kina popped out of place due to the muscles in my neck and shoulder ceasing up... worst pain ever.
I cant recommend osteopaths high enough, I've never been to a chiro cause they kinda scare me.. My osteopath fixed me up in 2 visits, but after the first vist was virtually pain free. Its the most awesome feeling when everything pops/slides back in place and they can give you exercises to help it from happening again.
Go the heat pack till you can get an appointment, and it sounds stupid - but I found if I kept my neck at a certain angle the pain was less.
Hi there im really feeling you'r pain at the moment i did the same thing a couple of months ago couldnt get my neck straight could lie down couldnt dry myself or wash and brush my hair it was exstreme pain? i ened up at my local doctor and she gave me vallium tablets i took two and they did wonders. ive put the rest of the tablets in my cuboard in case it happens again? My dad's a doc and he does this thing where he holds your head and you move it and he holds your head there and magically the pain goes away!
Not sure who you could get to do that for you, or what he does exactly, but it is magic.
Good to hear phineas.. :)
Hey Phin, how's it going now?
Sounds very similar to something that happened to me a few months ago. I leaned back, in bed, to turn on my bedside light and felt, what I thought was my neck, a sudden and excruciating pain!
I made an emergency booking into our local osteopath, and over the next few days and then weeks they put me back into place. On my first visit the osteo said although it felt like it was my neck it was actually a rib. And when she poked the rib I could actually feel the pain go from there and up my neck.
I could barely move for a few days. In fact, the first day I couldn't turn my head, but each time I saw the osteo it became just a little more.
