Help?
I am breastfeeding my boy (4 months) and he has always slept 8 hours at night, now he wakes every 2-3 hours for a feed. He is also feeding 2-3 hourly during the day where is used to be 4 hourly?!?!?
I feel he is hungry especially at night but because he is feeding so often, my boobs don't seem to have enough to satisfy him.
I am considering giving formula jsut before he goes to bed to see if it makes any difference.
Can anyone offer any advice? What should I look for in Formula?
Tired!

Hi
Could it be a growth spurt? My CHN said they are usually at about 6 weeks, then 4 months, 6 months etc.

I guess it could be, but i still feel he is not getting enough. I'm off to the Nurse today so I'll see what she says!

I think they may last 2-3 days? As for formula my bubs is on Nan1HA Gold and she seems really settled on that. I found s26 constipated her. However I think different formulas affect bubs in different ways so it's about finding the one that suits your bub most. Good luck!:)

growth spurts! aaaaaaaaargh!! lol
they seem to sneak up on you.
when i bf ds i would bf during day and bottle by night, he would settle alot quicker than with bf at night, he was fuller for longer.
but... every bub is different, it'd be great if they could tell you what they wanted.
ie: (thru monitor) "um, excuse me mum, dad, sorry to bother you, i know you need lots of rest. but i'm very hungry, could you please put together a nice warm bottle for me, ta, that'd be great - love ya!"

How long does a growth spurt last?
Hi
During the growth spurts if you feed frequently ie 2-3hrly or more frequently if required the spurt will probably only last a few days:) Hang in there.
The trouble with giving formula: your milk supply depends on these growth spurts to increase production of milk, to satisify your baby and provide all nutrients esential for optimal growth and brain development. Giving formula at these times is conterproductive and can lead to early weaning and increases the risks of developing various health and development problems.

Just keep BF him at night, there is a nice myth floating about that babies settle for longer on formula. Ahhhh no.
If he needs feeding, then feed him. It wont last forever maybe a few nights, a week, a month...in the whole scheme of things not a long time.
Breats do feel softer and emptier, but there is truely milk in them. Please call or check out the ABA website for more BF info. I am pretty sure that boobies 'fill up' again after 20mins.
