DH and I have to travel to Melbourne early next year - and we'll have two kids then!
We usually travel Virgin Blue and have never had any major hassles with them at all, esp with regards to flying with Sarah.
I was just looking at Tiger Airway's website, and they can do the return trip for almost $100 less than Virgin, and that's including the $25 infant ticket price they charge.
To go to Melbourne they fly out of the Gold Coast instead of Brisbane, but that's no big deal for us.
Has anyone flown with them yet? How are they with young toddlers and babies? Sarah will be almost 2 and her sister about 3 months.
Tiger havent actually stared flying domestically in Australia yet (I think they satrt in Nov or something like that - Check their site). I know that they already fly from Singapore to other Asian countries but havent flown with them myself.
All I can advise is just give them a try, what have you got to loose? I am a flight attendant myself for Qantas (On mat leave at the moment though) & my sister is an FA for Jetstar, I also have numerous friends that are FA's at Virgin - All of these companies have their good & bad points when travelling with kids. So just give Tiger a go, why not, if they work out cheaper than the others then theres a good enough reason to try them out.

Apparantly they're going to have VERY VERY cheap flights! $90 Melbourne-Darwin - $70 Melbourne-Sunny Coast etc etc...
VERY cheap!

Thanks :)
Maybe next time I will give them ago - will have to give them a miss this time as from what I can tell they will only be flying to Melbourne on certain days of the week, and sadly that doesn't match up with the days we have to be there. We'll be on a pretty tight schedule.
Ta for the info though!

I'll just give you a heads-up re/Jetstar...
they don't take 2 year olds very well.

DH has a "thing" against Jetstar - similar to the way he refuses to eat steak that has a bone in it  - so it will be Virgin Blue.
Plus I don't want to have to land in Avalon and add hours to our car trip on the other end.

I just flew VirginBlue today from MLB-SYD... The service was TERRIBLE.
Strangely flying in the opposite direction from SYD-MLB the service was much better.
I think I"ll be sticking with QANTAS from now on - I know I can always rely on them. Though I will definitely give TA a go once they start up (If they ever open a port in SYD that is...)

I have heard the same thing but I don't know how they are going to do it as they are proposing to pay more than Jetstar & Virgin pay their staff & are apparently in the process of poaching staff from these companies offering them huge pay packets?????? Ummmm will be interesting to see what happens.

Funny you say that about VirginBlue...My DH is a frequent flyer and usually flys with either VirginBlue or Jetstar, however today he flew with Qantas and he was not impressed at all! He actually said that he would never fly with them again!
DH will be trying Tiger Airways too. They will have flights from Rocky to Melbourne for only $59!! At the moment, we are paying anywhere between $235 and $350 one way!! I'd say give them a go too.
I really think it just depends on the staff that are there on the day. On a Jetstar flight last year, my then 1yr old son :barf: all over me, the seat, himself, etc, only 15 mins into a 2.5hr flight, and not one flight attendant offered me any assistance! I was totally disgusted. However at other times, they have been of great assistance to me when flying with my children.
Good luck!

I would say that's Jetstar's customer service regarding children and their parents to a tee!

Just checked the website and it looks like TA is going to charge an extra $25 for an infant to travel...

Even with this extra $25 though, it will still be a huge saving by choosing to fly with them compared to the other airlines in which you don't have to pay :)

What kind od assistance were you expecting from them in this situation? You have to understand that they are serving food/drinks to people & cannot clean up spew then go back to serving. Its unhygienic & I doubt that you would like it if you saw a flight attendant cleaning up someone elses spew then serving you a sandwich 5 mins later? Is it not your responsibility to clean up after your own kids? Another thing, the flight attendants were probably really busy (although most passengers think that they do nothing apart from serve food/drinks to them) & there were probably another 100 passengers on the flight, not just you.
I am not having a go just simply stating what I think, as I am a flight attendant myself & its not as easy as you think having 4 crew members serve say 200 passengers. If I were a flight attendant on your flight that day I would have tried to help you as best I could but you have to understand that there may have been factors preventing the flight attendants from helping you.

Leane-
As a paying passenger I would expect that an 'attendant' would at least ask if there was anything that they could do to help and perhaps offer a cloth, wipes etc? something to help clean up the mess?????????Some water?
You would think that someone vomiting on the plane would be up there on the list of priorities (um before sandwhich serving perhaps?) -for the comfort of ALL passengers?
Who wants to ride a whole trip with vomit wafting throughout the plane? You discussed hygiene issues, but who would want to be eating amongst that kind of smell or mess? It certainly wouldn't make ME hungry!
I don't understand what you mean about not wanting an attendant to serve food after cleaning up vomit-I'm assuming that the procedure would be to wash your hands first, just like after you finish in the bathroom?
I can appreciate that flight attendants are busy- arent we all these days? and I can appreciate that you probably cop a hard time and some people are big pains in the bum but......
Aren't flight attendants supposed to be helpful? There to 'attend' to the needs of passengers-as you say for more than just handing out sandwhiches. Surely even the less pleasant and glamorous parts of the job are important too?

I just can't understand your attitude and I really hope that you don't take it to work with you:eek: Surely M T & J's mum didn't deserve the way you spoke to her? IMO anyway :o

That is so funny...and so sad that you actually believe you shouldn't help someone.
Do you not have access to hand washing facilities on the plane? I'm pretty sure I spotted some in the toilets last time I was on a flight. So does the whole unhygienic thing mean that you don't go to the toilet for the entire flight too?
A man once vomited on a flight I was on and a crew member cleaned it up in an instant.
Maybe we should have her stuffed and put on the mantelpiece...
because she sounds like a rarity these days!
What kind of assistance were you expecting...that's hilarious!

Sorry, may I just ask another question of our flight attendant...
what airline do you work for?
Because I will avoid that one like the plague in future.

Hello everyone....
There have been some valid and useful points discussed here, but in the interest of not upsetting people, how about we end this one here. I would hate for someone to get offended when no offence was personally meant.
Many thanks for your understanding.
