Problems conceiving - when to try for #2?

Hi everyone :wave:

I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right place, but didn't know where else to post!! :o

I have a bit of a dilemma:

Both my DH and I have fertility problems (he has low sperm count, low motility and some abnormal sperm and i have had some endometriosis). We conceived our DS by IVF (it worked first go!!), he is now almost 10 months old. I am currently on the pill as our Dr told us we could still naturally conceive but it would be a lot harder than normal people.

I was thinking of going off the pill now, not that i am ready to have another baby yet, but thought we could "sort of" try for a year and if nothing happens then look at doing IVF again in around 12 months time. Also, doesn't mean IVF will work first go next time. We were just very lucky!! I don't want a huge gap between babies (i only want 2 anyway) maybe 2.5 to 3 year gap.

I spoke to DH about it and he wasn't keen for me to go off the pill yet, but i'm just worried that we might not be so lucky with the IVF next time around... ( i really don't think we will conceive naturally either)

Can anyone please give me some advice??

Hi. If it was me, I would go off the pill and just let things happen like you said until you are ready to start IVF again. Of course, your DH has to be ready too though. Maybe have a chat with him and let him know your concerns.

IMHO, seeing that you needed to use IVF, I would go off the pill and like said above, let things happen. If they don't then you can go the IVF route again. Better to try early and have it happen then to wait too long and have a big age gap!

I see where you are coming from... my Bubba is 3 mths now.. and took years and many M/C's so i have the same theory take nothing for now and see what happens


Why doesnt you partner want you to stop the pill?

Fludo - I will talk to Dh about it first!

Bel1978 - my dh doesn't want me to go off the pill yet because he thinks if we fall pregnant straight away that the age difference will be too close. But i just don't think it is going to happen anyway! I'll see what he says tonight!!
