Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but... my breasts feel like they're on fire!

I have this burning sensation all over the front of my breasts. (I am breastfeeding btw!) I've checked for blocked ducts and I know it's not let-down. I don't think it's thrush either, as I don't have the shooting pains I had after feeding, the last time I had it.

It's starting to get really uncomfortable. I've breastfed and expressed (I got 125mL last night!)to get some relief, but to no avail. :(

Can anyone give me some advice??

Hi Vickster,

I read somewhere that burning boobs is a sign of mastitis. You could try an at home remedy of cabbage leaves (trust me, they're great) but make sure you buy a proper size cabbage. My DH bought me a mini cabbage and the leaves did nothing for me (wierd, huh?).

Also try using a hand held shower head with water that's really warm and just massage them as much as possible. The water seems to soothe.

Or - you could use some veg oil and give 'em a good rub.

You probably should go to see your GP though, because if it is mastitis you want to get rid of it quickly, don't want to develop an abcess.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

It sounds a bit off to have mastitis in both boobs at once. Why don't you give Breastfeeding Australia (or is it Breastfeeding Assoc? I always get confused) a call for some advice - they are very helpful.
