View Full Version : Circumcision in the koran
Im just about finished reading the koran from cover to cover, I've always just gone to a section to read but anyways I havent found anything to do with circ mentioned and when I looked it up at the back it stated 'circumcision not mentioned in the koran'... It's not put me off it because ds will be having it done, but I was wondering if someone could help me with this...
I really dont want to hear peoples NEGATIVE opinions on circ this is just a thread askin for someone to help me with understanding it all by explaining how it comes into the islamic religion. Thanks ladies.

The Qur'an does not mention circumcision.
The main reason given for Islamic circumcision is (ritual) cleanliness. Against this it is hard to argue, except to point out that there is no more reason for the male genitalia to be ritually unclean than the female.
Another reason given is "to be like Muhammad, who was 'born circumcised'". This can easily be refuted: if the Prophet was born without a foreskin (aposthetic), he was not circumcised, and that is the way to be like him.
Please make sure that you educate yourself and your DP before making this decision.

can i just ask ellefreya why you are choosing to circ?
i'm not judging you at all but i am simply curious as to why some people choose to circ is all. :)
I am having him done
1) Because I think he should be like his father.
2) I believe it to be hygenic (regardless of what other say)
3) because his father wants him to be done and i dont see that as pleasing him after all he is his child as much as he is mine he has a right to make a decision.

There's no mention of circumcision in the Qu'ran.
The hadiths that do mention it also advocate clitoridectomy in the same breath.
Make of this what you will - but it would seem that from a religious standpoint, it would seem to be necessary to take an equal stance on both procedures. Either Islam advocates female circumcision, or it advocates neither kind.

hey chicky
you know we had our boy done, so no judgements here!!!
read read read!!!!
even if you just read about the actual procedure so you're informed, and know what to expect afterwards, they go into shock, which was awful, he was all quiet and i got even more upset...i cried just handing him to the doc.
and about keeing it clean afterwards, you cant bathe them for 36 hours afterwards and all those things, dh had no idea so i had to find it all out..i assumed [silly me, never assume!!] that he would know, since it was his family that circumcise, all the boys in my family get to keep all of their willys.
and dont go on your own!!! make emrah go with you, or your mum. i needed dh more than ever that day :(
Thanks sheena, i should of just come to u lol SILLY ME!!
