View Full Version : We miss Nanna... :(
When we moved back to Melb a week ago, we left my Mum back in SA and Eloise (and I) are missing her terribly. It all came to a head - I was fine until today - my brother called in this afternoon and when the doorbell went, Eloise ran to the door shouting "nanna nanna nanna" as she used to do in our old house. (It was always Nanna at the door in SA because she was the only family that visited on a very regular basis!) I held back my tears, but later on she was flicking through her photo album and came across a photo of the two of them. She carried it over and put it on my lap and pointed, saying "nanna nanna" - well I just burst into tears and couldn't stop.
I didn't realise how much I would miss her. We fight like cat and dog when we're together, she drives me absolutely nuts, and she'll probably end up moving here to Melbourne as well fairly soon, but I really didn't think I'd miss her this much. I think being a mum has turned me into a big old sook.... :o I need a hug girls!!
Rach - have a hug from me. My mum lives in a different country and my girls talk to her on the phone or webcam and look at her photos - and that gets me welling up - so I can only imagine how much you miss her when you have lived near her for so long. If it makes you feel any better - my experience of a geographically removed mum is that they LOVE to visit and spoil their daughter and granddaughters!

awww (((hugs))) to you and Eloise, Rach!!
My parents live 3 hours away, and Vallerie misses them heaps. But my mum phones us every few days - in fact, most of the time I answer the phone and mum says "Hello! Can I speak to Vallerie please?" and that's all the conversation I get!!!
Do you (and your mum) have webcams? Mum bought me and my sisters webcams for Christmas, because my littlest sister is moving to USA. But it will also be fantastic for Vallerie to be able to see and talk to Grammy and Grampy !
Mum's technologically challenged (to put it nicely!) so webcams are out of the question. :o
Stupid thing is, we've only lived close to one another for the past 4 years, before that, I was in Perth and she was on the Gold Coast, we've pretty much always lived in different states, at least for the past 20 odd years anyway (we all move around a lot!). When DP and I moved to SA, she followed us, and I got pregnant about a year later. This is the first grandchild (of 4) that she's seen right through from pregnancy to now, so it's pretty special for her. I speak to her every couple of days but it's just not the same.....
As I said, she'll probably end up moving over here sooner rather than later, there's nothing and no one in SA to keep her there. I'll just have to keep sending her the real estate sections of the paper!!

I know what you mean. My parents only live about 40 minutes away but my father has been very ill for the past 12 months and we don't get to see them as often as I'd like.
I always imagined Mum and I shopping with the bubby for clothes and doing mum stuff but unfortunately that didn't happen. Dad's too ill to go out and Mum can't leave him by himself. I try to take Ry there as much as possible so he can get to know them.
But I feel for you. I hope she moves to Melbourne soon !:)

Aww *hugs* to you, Rach and E. What a sweet child! I know how you feel. All my family live in the UK and altho my sister is thinking to move in Autralia (just to make me feel better) but I doubt it...
It might be hard now, culture shocks and all altho you used to live in Melb, but think about it you are one very lucky lady, knowing that your mum will be with you soon! :)

I know how you feel. My mum lives in Sydney and everytime she vists or we go down there my DD gets very upset. One time she tried to chase her onto the plane screaming"NANA Don't go". Needless to say this started me and mum crying as well. Jacinta talks on the phone to mum every second day so this does help a bit.
Hope you don't have to wait long for your mum to move.
